Use the Light Up emote while the pet is on your shoulder.

Open the emote menu with a light pet on your shoulder. If it isn't there look for 'Pet!' and try that one.

No you have to use the emote wheel, but if you hover over the button and press and unbound key I believe it will map a shortcut for you. (Console player trying to be helpful I apologise if I'm wrong in any of this)

I know this one is likely dead. However, I still wish to give an answer for anyone else who may stumble across this question. You do use the emote wheel, however, you use the Clap! emoji. Clap on, Clap off! The Clapper!

If you hover over an item in the emote menu and press an unused key ']' - that key will become the hot key for that emote. If you bind clap to ']' then that will be your light on - light off key.

Press and hold "T" (default keybind)

I don't know about the emote thing but can't you just set your pet to automatically light up when charge is full then pick it up and when it has full charge it lights up?

I'm not sure but this seems to work for me though you don't have a lot of control of when it lights up other than putting points in things like charge rate and charge capacity.

the higher the charge capacity the the longer it will stay lit up but the longer it takes to charge so you will need to put more points in charge rate to balance it out to your liking.

just so we are clear I use a featherlight dino. not sure if it's different for different creatures.
