STUTTERING: The textures use all RAM.
Hi! i have a problem.. the textures set on "low" run fine, but "medium" or hightest use all 8gb of ram and cause much stuttering (!)
All other settings do not cause the stuttering..

My pc specs:
- MSI GTX 1060 3GB
- Intel i5 6500
- Ram 8gb ddr4
- 1TB HDD

I started ark in "no sky effect" and "low memory 4gb" mode, but this dont fix the stuttering...
HELP.
ps: i play in Single Player.
(sorry for bad eng)

get more RAM :)

My local solo game is currently using 14.5GB RAM. Not sure how it would perform if I had only 8 or 16, but then I got 32GB to run ARK :)

The stuttering is most likely caused by your Vitual Memory Page file.

Right click your MY PC then go to the properties and find your Virtual Memory.

The Virtual Ram Page file is on your HD. Your computer only has 8gb of RAM, ARK really needs 16gb. 12gb is ok. Because you 8gb, your machine automatically uses your HD for Virtual Memory.

Because of this - when you move evena few steps or turn around or do anything in ARK that requires disk access read/write - then your HD will fight with your Virtual Mem Page file - this is called Thrashing.

Increase your Virtual Memory Page File to 18,000 - 24,000 - as the setting.

The best option would be to get 16gb of ram or an SSD the SSD will make the thrashing stop, and increases your fps slightly, but the 16gb will do the same and increase the beauty of your overal ARK visuals.

textures need VRAM!
if you can, refound your 1060 3gb and take the 6gb version (ARK uses up to 7gb of VRAM)

furthermore are 8gb RAM a little low for ARK 16gb are recommendet (also for other modern games)

Strange ark in my pc takes max 5 GB. Runs pretty well in 16 GB Ram.

i don't know how, but sometimes i can get it started and it is fluid.. but if i close the game and return, it doesn't work again... It does not make any sense!

It did not work :(

Actually 8Gb should be fine even for most modern games, the problem is the game is so badly optimised you have to brute force it, it's not your rig, but if you want to get 16/32Gb just to run this game smoothly then that will probably work..

There's no need for more than 8gb of RAM, if/when the game functions like it should. Whether it be memory leaks or poor garbage collection, Ark uses much more RAM for some people than is needed. On my new build my game is usually in the 2.5-4gb range. On my old build it was constantly maxing out my 16gb.

Why not? Games should make use of whatever RAM you have to make it run better.
With 64bit games they are no longer limited to the 2GB and that is a good thing.
Windows will gobble up 4-5GB RAM alone, so if you only have 8 total then that do not leave much for a 64bit game like ARK.

Because at times the game works well?
From "low" to "ultra" the game only consumes 200bm of ram, the problem is caused only by the texture "medium" or "highter"...
Some medium textures may not require all this ram.. O.O

When an application unnecessarily uses excessive RAM like you see in Ark you get stuttering when more is needed and it's not available. If you have 8gb of RAM, your OS should not be using 50%+ of it.

8gb RAM = 3-4gb for the OS= only 4-5gb for games (minimum for ARK are 4gb).
ARK uses up to 12gb of RAM for itself (+3gb for the OS = 15gb)
and most modern games are using a lot RAM
f.e.:
The Division = 13gb (game+OS)
XCOM2 = 10gb (game+OS)

furthermore
textures are using VRAM not RAM!
only if the VRAM is to small, stuff is pushed down to the RAM. this kills some FPS and can cause light stuttering. if the RAM is full too, the stuff gets pushed back to the hdd/ssd which kills a lot performance and causes stuttering with ARK.

It actually causes stuttering at about 14GB even if youve 32GB of total physical memory...

It's definitely a game issue.

ark wants more than 8, its probably uses a page file. 16 or 12 gb ram should help. also the upgrade to 16 gb ram gave me a boost of like 10 fps

I discovered something!
The low textures are ok, but "medium", "hight" and "epic"
they are same!! O.O if i set the "medium", the textures are desame of "epic" setting!!
why?!?
So, this is the issue of the Thrashing!
