What should I upgrade most on my pteranodon?
I'm thinking movement speed, and stamina, with a little weight, what do you think?

Just a little bit of weight, then a lot of stamina and some movement speed depending on how fast you want it. Stamina is more important, imo.

Depending on what you use it for, I normally pump a little weight so it can hold me and whatever else i might have (450 weight is pretty decent) and a little into health (2000-3000) then the rest into movement speed. Most Pterrys come with decent stamina but if you need to boost it 1200 is a good number to be at since it got nerfed and the spin attack isnt as great as it once was.

Definitely need the stamina, it can be usefull in life or death situations.

On level my 145-150 tames I shoot for 2k stamina, 180-200% speed, and whatever melee I can get, usually 300-400% if it's close already. Health, at least 1500 so it can last in a fight against tougher dinos or even low level alpha raptors etc. when spamming the C key.

You want at least 2k stamina if you plan to fly a lot, far, or use the C attack to kill stuff. That coupled with at least 180% speed or so gets you places when you need it. 1k stamina is the bare minimum I would use, and that would be for one that i just get until I get a better one. Can't do much flying or attacking with that before needing to recover. Especially when near max weight.

I usually get weight up to 200-250 lbs since it's not my farming animal and my own carry weight is usually 200-210lbs. It's meant to be a speedy flyer, so pumping up weight is a bit of a waste but if you have more than one Ptera, sure! It's your bird after all. :)

For me: stamina > weight (to about 500-600 for loot drops) > Health (about 1k-2k depending on server type) > speed (often the speed will get too high if not careful)

What are it's current stats? What are the stats it had right after it initally tamed? What are you trying to accomplish with it?

Like all flyers pteranodons are extremely versatile and can be built and used in many different ways.

Usually I first tame a mid level pteranodon and put all of it's points into speed (maybe a few into stam) and use it to find a good high level ptera with high melee.

Once I find a good high level one with around 300% melee or so post-tame, I will pump it's stamina up to 1500 then put every other point into melee and use it as a general purpose alpha killer / meat gatherer / prime-tamer.

Later on I knock out as many high level pteras as possible to find ones with good potential breeding stats to breed a few monsters.

Lowbie ptera is... low. use it however you like while you look for a better one.
___

High-ish level (but not perfect/nearperfect) ptera is good with lots of speed, and season with a little stam & weight to taste. This is your rapid transit mount.
___

Perfect tame or close to it... pump melee, more melee, also some melee, season with a little bit of stam, then pump more melee.

Ideal stats to shoot for, if you can achieve it: 1.5k or more hp, 2k or more stam, 250 or more weight, 500 or more melee (leaning on more melee if you have more levels to invest).

Trade/buy/steal to get a saddle with huge armor stat,
and install a tracking device on your battle ptera.

Then, get another perfect ptera, breed them, and replace your perfect pteras with a perfecter ptera with full imprinting bonus.

(Battle Role pteras don't need any speed. especially with imprinting bonus)

they are the most suicidal of ark creatures.
I have more headstones with ptera names on them than all other dino breeds put together.

a lot of weight points, lots of stamina, and probably health too, since they seem to be pretty squishy

upgrade weight on your ptera, its a fast farming tool , and is fast enough standard tamed speed. so upgrade weight and u will farm harder, pick up players the lot. i call it the cherrie picka! scoop down, pick the player. swim into ocean and drop in the sea, then return to land and laugh in chat as he swims 10 mins to shore, or drowns like a peasent player.

Stamina first. Weight if necessary. If you are planning on fighting him, health and melee.
Kresslack Dec 30, 2016 @ 2:56am
I have different Pteras for different jobs.

Fighters with between 400 + 500 melee and high hp/stamina.

Workers with high weight.

Ones for getting around with high speed.

Jack of all trades is truly a master of none.

But to get REALLY nice PTs you gotta save the best perfect 150 tames for breeding.
