Deathworms & Despawning

What's with the deathworms disappearing right infront of me?
I saw a red aura few foundations away and i knew it was an alpha deathworm so i thought, "oh lucky i better heal up my wyvern first". Few secs later and its gone...

Yeah they despawn fast, even normal worms will despawn if not engaged quickly, not as fast as Alpha but still.
