Have they jumped the shark?
Back in the day, there was a show called "Happy Days," a nice little piece of American television comedy that out-stayed its welcome. Towards the end, with few original stories to add, and trying to keep everyone happy, the writers developed an episode wherein one of the main characters "Fonzie" jumps over a shark while water skiing. This became a Hollywood watchword for "over done." I mention jumping the shark because, after a long string of clearly OP additions (including grind), I recently saw the post on dino-mounted lasers. You know, back when the game first posted, I asked for dino-mounted lights, but got shouted down as being too technological. So, now lasers.

Are we there yet? Have the developers "Jumped the Shark?" What's your opinion?

Nah, they told us of Tek tier since release. So this is long overdue. If they pulled something like spaceships then yes lol.

Ummmm, becareful here..... Spaceships would be too much you say?

Early on, there was the first map that named the various islands, mountians and areas ... The Footpaw, Drago's Cove, Frozen Tooth, Frozen Fang etc.

On that map, the large water area where the rivers meet SW of the current redwoods (used to be called "Deep Isle") was named "The Derelict Ship". So, what with the obelisks, the alien arm implants.... and the naming of that area (which has since been removed)... I wouldn't say anything about spaceships if I were you.

Naw, if you defeat all the bosses 3 times, you get to play with a Jackie Gleason skin. He has a special emote... shakes fist "To the Moon, Alice. To the Moon!".

That sounds...awesome, but I don't know how I feel about that here. What, dinos with oxygen masks? lol. Here here! Get your Tek Oxygen Dino outfit for only one imprinted giga!

Thing is I don't think they would implement anything beyond what we have now teleporting through the obelisks. One might speculate what the "ascension" truly means and how it ends, but if there was ever to be something like space it'd probably be just another map that you transfer through the obelisk.

But thanks, now I'm scared of the future. :D

Ooooooo, that would be cooooool.
Go into space in your spaceship and tame some wild aliens and bring them back to The Island and have them rek some poor slobs wood hut !!! That'd be soooo coool.
Can I paint the aliens green? Can they teleport through metal walls? What resource do I need to power their spaceship phasers? Wood? Thatch? Maybe Oil?
Do I feed them Prime Meat Jerky or do they only eat spark powder? Can one of them teach me magic? Do I get a wand? My wands bigger than your wand. Can we invade their home planet?

Ark Survival Evolved : All things to all people. Everything is possible with Ark. No other game is safe. Ark will do all things soooo much better than any other game. It will take over the Universe.

edit: and for those who never seem to get it.... /s

The question wasn't "was a tech tier mentioned." The question was "Is that sort of thing over the top?" My personal opinion is that the game is trying to be too much for too many. All the advanced stuff is fun to play around with, but all the 3rd party plugins for the engine (Truesky, et al), make it much harder to limit what you don't want on your personal server. Personally, I'd like to see an in-depth GUI that does the config work for you (so you don't spend hours trying to track down one script line in a file that you didn't know about).

I like that you can go in a lot of directions with this, but I don't like being FORCED to go in a particular direction. It takes a lot of work to completely customize a server the way you want it; there are a lot of loose ends to chase down. I know some people that have plans for an "Age of Mammals" server, once all the content is in and finalized. Other people I've talked to want more of a gritty, "realistic" feel to it, so more of a primitive, but also more restictive on dino types/capabilites/sizes. As of yet, neither of those can happen, of course. But setting up the potential now might be a nice thing. Yes, I know that detailed GUIs are a pain in the ass to make (and I remember when the clickables on the cover page were off-set, too).
