Figuring out Mutations
I haven't seen much discussion of the new mutation feature. Developers were very quiet on the details of the matter as far as I can see and currently there's been almost no discussion.

So, as you can see I've been doing some work seeing how often Mutations happen. I've started with some level 1 trikes on SP, rapidly breeding them. After well over a dozen hatches I so far haven't hit a single mutation. I have a theory they might be more common on higher level dinosaurs.

(Which is unfortunate, I was hoping to start a family from level 1 and breed them up to max level)

There's a few questions I think I'd like to test for to see answered:

-Do mutations effect the overall level of the dinosaur?

-How common are mutations?

-Can you break the current max stat limits with mutations?

-Is there a limit to proceeding generations inhereting mutations? (Essentially allowing you to breed stats infinitely)

-Do dinosaur species effect how common mutations happen?

I think you didn't get any mutations because when breeding Lv 1 creatures, there are no wild level ups to be passed on anyways, so there can't be any stat mutation.

I was told mutations include random chances of albino and melanistic animals, as well as the chance of a seriously bad or good stat mutation.
For example, right now breeding only carries over tamed-out stats. No post-leveled stats.
I'm being told that mutations have a chance of carrying over post-leveled stats.

This is what I read as well. It could be bad, could be good... Chances of bad are much higher when inbreeding thus the family trees. Maybe I can finally get that high level albino t rex I wanted!

We are doing tests today with the 310 rexes we have bred. We hatched 8 eggs today and got 1 male and 7 females.
Mated them and cooking eggs now.
I will post what we got when we get it :)

Just FYI if you didn't see this. but Jen said this in another post here on the boards......

Random mutations are "mutated" stats that will be greater than that of the parents. Since they are random, you won't know what stat(s) has mutated until after the baby is born. There is also some visual mutations that can occur in terms of colour!

Doing this with Karrane.. just for more info.. the 8 eggs today were bred before the patch.. but hatched after.. so they are considered brothers and sisters.. all 8 have the same parents..

Ok.. update on todays testing..

We bred 310 max stat rexes for total of 20 eggs.
We got 1 mutation.. an increase in weight from 920 to 940 on genreation 1 eggs.
We are cooking down gen 2 eggs atm.. will update if any other stat changes or weight goes up again.

Lol.. one more mutation that happened....
