How Rare Are The Otters???
So, I have the game for PC, but my PC doesn't have the proper video card for me to actually play so I'm stuck on console...

However, since the otter is so new to the game (for console at least) I'm hoping that someone that plays Ark on PC could point out a few things about the otter that I may be missing.

I play on Primitive Plus, and was recently told that the otters aren't even out for Prim+ yet, but I can still see them in Prim+ Single Player...? Anyway, my questions are:

1. How rare is the otter?
I have heard that you can find more gigas than otters. And at this point I believe it.

2. I know they spawn on all 3 maps, and using the Spawn Map from the wiki doesn't really help that much when the in-game map isn't as detailed... but on which map are they most common?

3. Why aren't they common to begin with? Otters are a social class and live in families. Yet, I've been searching since the xbox one release for the otters (9/23/17) and to this day can not find them.

Please, I know console and pc players have their differences, but nobody in the facebook groups I'm in, or even in game know anything or are willing to tell me anything about the otters. I've searched for nearly a week straight and am at the point to where I'm here, asking for the big league players to help me with information on where and how rare these little non-existant river dwellers are.

(I kind of sound extremely desparate because on Prim+ theres only 3 servers for console and I'm based in the snow to stay the heck away from people on pvp... and I hear the otters keep you warm...)

LOL I want them cause they're freaking adorable and they keep you warm, they also collect pearls when you have them kill fish, and since I'm in the snow, most of my points are going into fortitude instead of oxygen (prim plus doesn't have scuba tanks)

Its not an issue of rarity really. Its an issue of spawn cycling. Some dinos share spawn rotations in the same location. In this case, you have to kill off fish in known spawn spots in order to have the chance that the respawn turns out to be an otter. Its not hard to get em to spawn just need to get them to cycle through after 1-3 fish killoffs.

Oooohh Ok, thank you!
I may need to some how tame a low level spino first so I can kill the fish faster, but all I have atm is a few metal tools and no tames XD I'm bouncing between Rag and Island looking for them on console and its kind of irritating...

There are two adjoining ponds south east of the green obelisk nestled in a small copse of redwoods. Ponds have salmon and coel and some minor predators around on uncommon occasions. Usually raptors or few occasions of terror birds and very rarely a carno or rex will meander in.

So a relatively secluded and safe area to farm fish and otters really.

Are you talking about the pond thats splin by a stone slab, one side is a little bit lower than the other and has a giant boulder in the middle? Thats where I have a small base set up, but I haven't seen any there at all, I should probably kill all of the fish though just to get something to respawn

i also have seen one otter at the cave near viking bay. but at the big pond near the broken bridge, behind the waterfall cave i have seen otter too. also they are everything but not helpfull. you can go everywhere at murder snow without even freezing and primitive pelt clothing when you have a really strong otter :)

I have only seen one otter, and it was at Viking Bay at the waterfall with the cave behind it.
On Prim Plus for xbox one theres only one rag server and theres a massive base built there :(

Yes. But if you have a base there that is limiting spawns/respawns then you of course would not see them, just like how people irresponsibly build over beaver spawn locations.

Otherwise, again you have to kill fish, leave render distance for a while and then return. This is how people trigger other spawns of things well before otters(like farming for ovis which share spawn spots with the deer on that map, or trying to get beaver dam spawns etc.

But of course others have to be out of the subzone too for that trick to work. Otherwise you have to wait for the natural, longer timer respawns.

I have yet to see a wild otter

okay, I saw one in the pass between the redwood and Dead Island, the river running between Far's peak and Frozen Fang. Only seen the one though. I actually didn't see it, my Wyvern ate it >.<

And potentially you never will if you dont clear/reset fish spawns. Its rng to get em to spawn in the appropriate places.

Otters spawn in the southern rivers on The Island

The Center and SE I'm not sure

They spawn mostly in Beaverland on Ragnarok

Ahh ok. I will give that a try. A tribe mate got a hold of one a while back but despite looking I've yet to see one. Will wipe out a river or two on my wyvern and try again :)
