So if you want to delve into modded content and customized game play then the steam version may be for you. Otherwise, no. If you want to see examples of what the modded content has to offer, you can check out tons of videos by people like Sl1pg8r Mazion Xbcrafted and others who play on their private pooping evolved server and churn out vids on the channels for years now. They mostly do let's plays with modded content.
I Have no interest in mods for this game whatsoever. I was more thinking about updates for crafting and new dinosaurs.
For example I own 7 days to die on ps4 and pc, and ps4 is way behind on a lot of content updates. I even heard that the console version might not be updated at all anymore.
As long as the console version of ark gets the same updates and content as the pc version i guess i'll stick with that.
I have an msi ge72 laptop with i7 6700 and gtx 980m. It runs most games i play on high-ultra, but I have my doubts about ark after watching performance videos..
other then performance? nope, ts the exact same
only reason why you would get a PC is to have it run smoother and more selection of servers
Dev's encourage modded content play as really that is what the focus of the game is(you can see Kayd Hendricks encouraging folks to play unofficial servers in his interview segement on the charity event stream for Extra Life (7 hr mark or so) even. Not playing modded content is of course a choice you can make but choosing not to means that yes, there's no point in bothering with the steam version really. PS and Xbox take a slight delay in feature releases only because those platforms have a second layer of QA to pass certification to go on those platforms but they're not going to be abandoned any time soon (especially since there's still yet another 3rd paid dlc contracted for released in the season pass).
So if you dont play on unofficial servers, dont bother with mods and want to opt to play only on the official servers which are little more than ptr servers and overcrowded messes or on single player, then there is zero need to get the steam version.
