Therizinosaurus in South region (The Island), ugh..
Hello.

Even though I'm level 40 I still have problems dealing with the Therizinosaurus quite often. I also don't understand why it only is aggresive towards humans, have not seen it attack any other creatures.

Anyway, I usually just hide in my stone house when it's around and for some reason it just 'knows' I'm there and attacks the house. Fortunately I was able to kill two of them from inside the house with a pike and stone arrows. But dang, this creature took like 80 HP from my health per hit.

Am I the only one who finds the Therizinosaurus to be strangely aggressive only towards humans? Would like to see them less often on South region, which is supposed to be 'easy' according to the region spawn menu. Last time there was a Carno 115 level around my house I stabbed it like a 100 times (with a simple spear though, since I was lower level) and still didn't die. I mean, I understand the concept of survival, but you don't expect these creatures around an easy region. Especially not near the beach.

Best way to deal with the Therizinosaurus though? I see them quite often on this 'easy' region at around 82,68 - The Island.

Thanks.

Build a taming pen as soon as you can. And then tame that monster chicken and make it your B$%#@

tame a thylacoleo and rule the ark

you have 2 options..

you can kill the therys with arrows and pikes
or
you can move the thery far away from you or your base just with 1 arrow

they are very easy, more when you have a decent dino like at least a rex

So long as you know where they are they're quite easy to avoid. You have to be pretty close to bother them.

If you have one of those lovely birdies that floats on water you can lure the pest into the water and let the sharks have some fun with it.

Allright thanks for the replies.

I have not tamed any animals yet because at the beginning I wanted to focus on my player + I felt they would be a burden to maintain. And of course I wanted to tame something strong.

But the real problem at this moment is, not enough build space. There's often many players on the server and since it's PVE, I can't just take down any structure. Need to wait 2 more days before I can destroy some smple thatch structures.

Reason I prefer PVE is because, well.. you can't get cuffed or locked up in a cage and people don't destroy your stuff.

HIT - What did you mean by moving them far away from my base with 1 arrow? Like hit it from a distance and lure it away? Seems risky if you count in the damage the Theri deals and I can run only so fast.

On a side note though. It kinda bums me out that I rarely encounter other players even when the server is full. If I do they're just running about. Also. seems like most of them already know eachother and are really high level. Guess they're pretty hardcore and the server is only at day 560 or so!

Hi - yeah the thing was that they just keep walking around my base (I think they come from the forest/riverbed) and when I hid inside when it came close it attacked. Must've smelled, heard or either have seen me through the windows. I've built window panels now though but it doesn't make me much more comfortable.

Ofcourse, I understand the game is about survival, I just didn't understand why it would only attack humans and why they spawn in 'easy' regions.

Actually it does attack other creatures... just only player-owned ones.

I would be more OK with it aggroing the player if it weren't so bizarrely hating player-owned tames while ignoring wild ones.

Heck, the Theriz won't even fight an Alpha Raptor, and they won't fight it either.... But a player-owned Parasaur... must be eaten! Fraking berry eaters!

OK, a bit more helpful advice... As mentioned pulling them away from your base is a good idea...

When I started on the new official I started on Center's "Easy" South Trop and there were dozens of Theriz around. 90% of my deaths were from Theriz.

My tactics mostly involved pulling them away. If you have no tames and no other means, dump all your gear (or if already killed ignore your loot bag) and run as far from your base as possible naked, making sure it follows you. When you die you'll have nothing to lose, but you'll have lured him further. Sometimes you'll need to do this a number of times due to how quickly he'll close the distance and murder a naked human. Eventually though, you can pull him far enough away from your stuff that you can grab it and continue on with him out of aggro range.

A more advanced approach is with a raft or flier, use some arrows to hit him from afar, or maybe a barrel roll with Ptera (they can't hit back in mid-roll)... If your Ptera's not up to snuff to take him down, just fly out low over open water... preferably where there are sharks and mantas... IIRC, the Southern Islets in the Island are full of these.

Theriz won't aggro megalodons or mantas, but they will indeed aggro against him, they'll eat him up for ya. You can use the raft just as easily, if not more-so (stand on the raft and shot arrows to keep aggro), With the raft just be cautious about Leeds.

Thanks.

Good idea going naked and luring it away. My current running speed has been upgraded quite a few times and with no weight I think it should work out.

P.S. I didn't know what you meant by Leeds so I Googled it. Turns out these Leeds's only real reason to exist is to attack your raft. I'm suspecting that similarly, Theris were designed to harass players with no other real purpose other than to tame it. A bit skewed if you ask me.

Thanks for your detailed help. I think going naked and luring it away is definitely the most viable way, or at least for the moment. And I was growing so fond of my beard.. I haven't died yet - am currently level 40 lol.
