How dangerous are mountains?
I need large amounts of Metal and I don't currently have a Argent saddle unlocked so how dangerous is it to climb by foot? I'm talking SP and in that serve all I can afford is Hide armor.

What you could do, is drop the rex with tranq's, then while it's knocked out go and find a Bronto or if you have the dinocolours+ mod, find a baby creature and then go back to the rex with your fresh prime meat ^_^

If you're not quite map savvy yet, then you could always place a load of camp fires as a light beacon to find where you left the rex.
What dinos can kill a Bronto though as using a musket would probs take forever.

Heres the trick about the mountians . Go to the Volcano... AKA the highest peak .. Bring a fair amounbt of water bags . Like 4 or more . It has metal , obsidian and crystal . It might take serval trips but it's worth it . Learn way points to land if need be. Most if the peaks and high
points have resourses you want . It's just deciding if you want to land to harvest.
I'll look at the spawns and decide.

A decent carno can kill a bronto, but then there's the matter of taming the carno.

At the valcano top is a ridge that makes it hard for spawns to stay there , which makes it easy for you to land . But remember it's avaolcano ... if your Fortidude is no so good to close r you go yo the laval inside the HOTTER it gets . Thus the fair amount of water . Remeber small flame and you loosing water fast. Big flame and your loosing water and health.

On the flip side ... once to get cold weather gear. (I grew and cut my own hair to make my first set) At the top of the mountaian with the Blue obelist share that same benefit, that it's hard for spawns to stay at the very top. It has Crstal , obsidian and metal.

Custom recipes help a great deal with the cold. You can wear one bit of fur with 40+ fortitude and not worry about the weather.

I was about to suggest the enduro stew. It not only keeps you alive in freezing temperatures but heals and damage you may have. However, rather than goi9ng to the snow covered mountains, I think the OP would be better off starting with the smaller southern hills for his metal and then moving on to the much warmer Fang when he has better air transport. A small base with a forge to make ingots and maybe a garage for an anky would set him up well. Of course he should be careful not to build on any of the resource spawn points or other players may get
a bit peeved.

Taming a Carno isn't hard, they are just hard to find.

Hmmmm. Seems like a good idea.

Build close to metal, 2x2 base with sloped roof and internal catwalks, place storage on those the space use is good...
Sounds good, I think I should tame Argents or Rexes first to prevent being over encumbered.

The first Island East of the Footpaw has metal & crystal on top. Location 75 45
The third island East of the Footpaw has a little (3 - 4 nodes) metal on top. Location 80 65
The Island East of the Redwoods has metal & crystal on top. Location 65 60
Herbivore Island has metal. Location 85 85

Lots in the round river rocks found at virtually every shallow river crossing.

Cool but gonna have to get good tames first.

Since the caves changed even lower south is worth it for obsidian, metall..
Just need to find a way to deal with with snakes, spiders etc.

If you reach to clear the cave though you could put foundations and never worry about dinos again.

Firearrows, Spikewalls, Dimorphs might help with that.

For good starter dinos checkout herbivore island - a decent level ankylus or a pack of them has only a few enemies wich could stop it.
Noice.

How do you think everyone else does it?
They wait until they are a higher level and have at least an argentavis to hunt mammoths on or something.

No, no no.... I'm not saying walk or ride by ground I mean fly there .... FLY FLY over the negativity of can't do ... and do what you need to get the base materials that you may need to grow . The mountain tops I mentioned have vast resources that you can pick off for the basics.

Ok. So seeing in how Pteras are bad when it comes to weight unless you have a whole flock of them... I'm assuming I need Argents which don't sound TOO hard to get but I might tame a decent Trike herd just incase I get jumped by a sneaky T-Rex (So I can keep it distracted to tame or kill, probs kill to prevent my taming getting ruined.).

Seems like I might need a Archeopteryx or a Parachute then. Thank you.

always carry at least 3 parachutes because you never know when you need to make an overdramatic exit.
