Recommended specs for this game?
Hello!
I'm fairly new to this sort of thing, but I am tasked with finding my brother a suitable PC for his favourite games, the most important being Ark Survival Evolved. Currently, my own PC isn't quite up to scratch. As he is getting a new pc for christmas, I was wondering if the following would be good for this game?

Intel® Core i3-7100 Processor
RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 1 TB HDD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Extreme graphics are not a problem, as he (apparently) doesn't mind having graphics on even the lowest settings.

Thank you for your assistance!

Thank you for your comment @Bloxer The Blob! Unfortunately, me and my brother have attempted troubleshooting and boosting Ark's fps. Although we saw a slight increase, it wasn't enough for my brother to play with his friends without running into trouble!

Would I still be able to run Ark on the lowest graphical setting without lag or would I lag with this? I'll keep searching for a pc with an i5 processor. Thank you!

I have heard that you can add some launch options to make the game run smoother.
-d3d10 will force the game to run in direct X 10 wich could help alot
-sm4 will use a different shadow model i think
-USEALLAVAILABLECORES will make the game use all you processors cores
-nomansky will disable sky effects

to use these right click on ark in your library go to properties and click launch options.( write an - infront of everything so it looks like -sm4-d3d10.........)

As for your Pc specs i think it should be able to run it kinda good dont expect to much though.
I have a gtx1080 a i7700k and 16 gb ram and not even i can run it at 60 fps with everything on ultra/ all setting activated at 1080p. With everything maxed out i get about 40 fps and the 1050Ti is quite a bit worse than the 1080. The game is optimised like crap.

Edit: i just found this video showcasing the game with a 1050ti but with a different cpu though.

Hi, ChikiChar! If you don't mind me asking, what's your budget? Also, would you willing to look into building the PC? Building a PC is FAR easier than it sounds & your brother will get a more powerful PC for less $$.

is this a prebuilt system? your real problem is thats only a dual core cpu and the min listed for this game is a quad core

it 'might' run it but if you could upgrade the cpu to a quad core then you woulld be ok for Ark
i cant say if that system would run or not tbh - the other specs would get you low-med @1080p i would guess if you had a comperable quad core

I believe around 600€ at a maximum. Because I'm so inexperienced, I don't believe I could build a PC.

They are prebuilt systems, unfortunately. How do I know which ones are quad cores and which are dual cores?

Would this be better?

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Processor

Yes, that has a quad core & would be better. The only thing I recommend is to order a extra stick of ram so you get it up to 16GB. Installing ram is super easy and requires no experience, plus it's one of the cheapest parts that can make a huge difference in how a game runs.

Here is another decent PC within your budget - https://www.amazon.com/CYBERPOWERPC-GXIVR8020A4-Desktop-i5-7400-7200RPM/dp/B0747W15QL/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511378769&sr=1-1&keywords=gaming+pc

i just google them myself, i cant keep up with all the 'model' numbers either
an Amazon listing is how i found that one is a dual core and the min listed was quad :P
but any site that gives a description and stats/specs should work (provided you trust that site) even the site your buying from should have this spec listed somewhere in the description i would think

Primary issue with either of the above is going to be

1. the HDD: if you only play the basic game and never touch modded content(which would be inane since this is a game primarily focused on modded content and customized play), an HDD will be ok but ssd's for ark are better. The difference between night and day with regards to load times into a server or single player. A 20 mods server on typical hdd's can take someone 5-10min to just get in the server while the mods load up. Less than a minute if its an ssd.

2. Ram. Ark is a ram hog and such low ram skirting the minimum requirements(which btw are a severe lowballing as ark is a rig pounder) is going to make their rig prone to low memory errors... which will become compounded again with modded content considerations(but definitely not limited to it). At least get 16gb.

Outside of that, as you've noted, either rig considerations are going to be a mix of medium and some high settings and some low to maintain meaningful performance and fidelity.

Nothing retsam1 said is wrong, but I think it's important to note how much SSD's cost. On average, a SSD costs 4-5 times what HDD cost. I love my SSD, but it didn't come cheap.

The OP is working on a tight budget so I don't think a SSD is the best option, unless he's able to spend a fair amount more.

Thanks for all your relpies!

I've found a website that just lets me customize all of the options I'd want, and using what you've all have talked of I think I've found the perfect fit, 4 cores, 16gb ram. The only thing is that the SDD does go quite a bit over budget, and this website is already stretching it a little bit so I can't get that particular part. Thank you all very much for your help!

The amazon pc is great, but unfortunately I live in a place in which the site does not deliver fast enough to make Christmas without needing to pay substantially extra.

I'll also wait a little bit til Black Friday and see if I can squeeze in the SDD then if it hits a sale.

Cheers, lads! Ye all went the extra mile and I appreciate it!

So you realize just cause the CPU has 4 cores doesn't mean it is reaching the "minimum posted requirements" that is on the store page for the game.
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better

This is posted as "minimum" not as recommended which you are asking for. The CPUs that have been mentioned so far such as I3-7100 and Ryzen 3 1200 would be in the "minimum" category still. You would need to be in the I5 7th gen or Ryzen 5.... or if you are incredibly lucky and can get an 8th Gen I3 then you can definitely do that... ya an I3-8350k would destroy everything that you have been talking about cause Intel decided to troll everyone this year....*shakes head* you can look that CPU up.

As for the video card... the 1050 ti is good, or if you can save your money up for a 1060 it's worth every penny for the difference in performance.
