How to Kill Ichthyornis?
I'm playing singleplayer, my character is about level 15.

Everything was going fine until a bird appeared. It circles above my base. About every 10-15 seconds, it dives down, injures me and steals something.

I build a campfire. Bird dives down and destroys it with 1 attack.

I kill a Dilophosaur. Bird dives down, corpse is gone.

Doesn't matter if I hit it with my spear when it dives down because it steals food and the little bit of damage has healed again when it attacks moments later.

I've tried kiting it away from my base, but when it loses track of me, it flies back to the base and circles it again.

Soo... I can't cook anymore, I can't forage anymore and I'm constantly being hurt. The only thing I could do would be to abandon my base and start over. But then it's only a matter of time until the next bird from hell spawns.

So is there any way of killing it?

The best way is to just remove them from ever spawning by adding this to your Game.ini file, you may have to google where exactly it is for your single player game.

NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="Ichthyornis_Character_BP_C",ToClassName="")

I do this for all of my servers as these dino's are just annoying and nobody really wants one anyway. Once you paste this in you should do a "cheat destroywilddinos" to get a fresh dino spawn going.

A few well placed arrows will do the trick, but they can be hard to hit.
I do believe you can still loose the agro by diving under water as well.
Once you have a bigger pet tamed you just eat them though.

Thanks. I managed to remove the bird from the game :)

However, right after re-entering my game, one of the ultra-large dinosaurs started swiping his head across my base in an endless cycle, flinging me away whenever I try to enter my house.

Maybe I'm just patently unlucky :D

I decided to ragequit and delete my game & saves. Maybe I'll give it another try one or two years down the road.
Well you can kill them with regular spears if you aim well. Just throw the spear at where it will be. Takes a little practice but I've gotten good at murdering those pesky birds. My solution is always "Don't build on the beach"

Tame a Pteradon. Tell them to kill it. It would be nice if the developers could create a net that we could catch them with and put them into no-die-scream mode so that we could hit them with a club for about 8 hours and listen to them scream. I removed them from my private server. They suck. I mean the devs that created them.

These birds are hell. But you can do stuff about them. Go find yourself a dimorphodon and tame it. Heads up, the little bastards are squirrely things to knock down but keep one of those fluttering about and those ridiculous seagulls are no match. Once you got enough engrams for a large plant pot, or if you find one in a drop, go drop some plant X seeds in it, one should be enough to keep them out of your base, and most anything else. But a few is even better (cover all the angles). You'll want the big planters anyway to grow vegetables, which is necessary for kibble.

Tab and type destroywilddinos

They are a pain both early and later in the game but they have their uses.

They can steal entire stacks of narcotics off you so make sure you store them in a mount when you're going to tame something because they seem to have a taste for them and will almost always steal them first (I've lost literally thousands of narcotics because of these things)

Removing them from the game is an option but they are worth taming as they are a great way to get prime meat, both normal and fish.

Set them to hunt and retrive and every small thing they kill be it fish, compy, dodo etc they will bring back to you with a glowing golden aura around it.
Feeding that corpse to creatures that tame that way (like the Otter) causes a significant boost to the taming bar, likewise harvesting corpses with the aura always gives prime meat.

You can tame them fairly easily once you've got Bola's providing you can hit one with it.
They only eat fish though so tame the lowest level one you can find.
Then use that to get as much prime meat as you like for quick taming Raptors and other early game stuff.
Well this thread is from 2017, OP has already said he doesn't wish to play the game again for at least 2 years and has not been on steam for 80 days.... Though I am sure the info posted here may prove helpful to someone..

Is it really a necro when op says?

"I decided to ragequit and delete my game & saves. Maybe I'll give it another try one or two years down the road."

May just be good timing.

Oh you beat me

The op is still around :)

Haven't felt like picking up the game again yet, though. I'll try those tips once I do. Maybe next summer. Or the one after...

Dayum that bird got you good.
I hate them too but with bow and arrows and endless attempts it dieded.

on early lvls try throw spear at him i usually craft 4-5 spears on start works good against dilo and ichtyornis they ar ereally not so hard one hit from thrown spear kills it easy ,just be carefull while throwing sears vertically if u miss spear fall down and... :P im not sure maybe u can craft bow&arrows at that lvl anyway .
