There are many reasons to why Offical servers are a low pop allow me to list a few.

1 you may be checking local servers when outside of peek hours, Checking the US Servers at
1am for example.

2 After severial patches that ruined the offical play people have moved to single player/ non offical muliplayer.

3 people have left offical servers due to the server active playerbase being overily agressive.

4. Dino/tame Cap

5.Nothing left to do, waiting for somthing other then logging in to play farmvile.

6. Not wanting to risk lossing there base and time people moved to a non Wildcard hosted server so they have more control over wither there work gets deleted.

(i realize non of these really fall into your complaints about getting raided over and over again by sugesting there should be a Raid cool down. this will only result in people parking outside your base tell the clock hits 0 and instead of just taking some things they will finish the job. )

Many pple that Admin servers... arent very good at it.
Those that are good at it... particularly good pvp Admins, set guidelines for themselves and stick to them. No exceptions.

But... policing a server 24/7 isnt that simple....

I have to say I am liking the 10+ legecy server more without Noobs building in stupid places, every day!
It's peaceful even going to move water pen were I always wanted too!

Whitelisted players don't count to server population. So a server that shows 0/10 could in fact have 5 players playing but they are Whitelisted so it does not show you in the server list

This seems a bit more name and shame axegrinding than a legitimate complaint about server populations.

If you're using the in game search feature to location well populated servers, this is a mistake because the system is wholly broken and offers few search options. Googling ark server lisst you'll find more than a few list search sites that show many servers and with much better search options including by mods. Battlemetrics for example (and I went a head and sorted unofficials by player numbers for you too:

https://www.battlemetrics.com/servers/search?dir=desc&feature%3A8=False%2C+unofficial&game=ark&page=1&sort=players

All that said, one of the key flaws of the game(and sadly its an intended flaw too for meta reasons more than survival ones) is ecoside. Many realize this and opt for smaller community servers.

But all in all, the onus is on the player to vette servers that match them.

Because casuals can't handle official.

Because there are around 14 000 servers for around 50 000 players = 3.5 players per server in average.

The problem of ark is that the license for the ARK server is free...so each kid out there is hosting their own servers...

The one and only solution is that wildcards adds licencing to the ARK dedicated App. For example one time 30$ per server.

So Hosters would get more expensive...and people think longer before they open a server which is then closed down 2 months later because they don't have an idea how to host a server ^^

Well as we all know the Internet is full of ♥♥♥♥♥, and nearly no one loves to get some random ♥♥♥♥ in their face. So people stick to people they know.

This would really put a screw to the people who rent servers for family/friends, though not strictly limited to that. I have 2 servers that my friends and I play on, and only one is passworded. we don't want to exclude people, and we play PVE so server population isn't something we're concerned with.

There are so many arks because everyone wants to customize it, per design. IMO, if you want PVP, you should play official. Unofficial PVP, on paper, follows the Adam's economy model. If you have terrible admins/mods, players should move on, leading to the better servers having more population.

Again, I'm a casual PVE player, so I only throw that last bit in as a footnote.

That would be utterly stupid. Most likely it would kill off even a lot of good unofficial servers.

There are pros and cons to both Official and Non-Official PVP servers. The more you play official the more cancer and politics you see, at the same time the more you play unofficial (if you can find a good one that's not littered with sh*tty mods that break pvp even more), the more you assure yourself that admins/mods are salty b*tches that can't take a hit (raid) and throw a fit over it. Also "unwritten" rules everywhere....

If you had to pick, I'd say Unofficial server with Vanilla settings and playstyle (no rules) would be best (ideally a 4 map cluster), but that's rare. So probably Official is the way to go. Just join a big tribe.
Rocket Oct 18, 2017 @ 5:06am
I have a 4 map cluster setup with 48gb ram. Expandable to 192gb. Double easy swap hard drives. PVE looking for casual players. I have a bad a.ss server computer and can run alot of servers / clusters. If there is enough interest can setup another one just for pvp.

5th cluster when Aberation comes out. Not playing alot myself at the moment as working 60 hours a week. However it's there for someone to enjoy and its free... Clusters test works good. Have Ragnaorok, The Island, The Center, and Scorched Earth. Rates around 4.5x with 2x stats.

Not a rental so plan on keeping it online along time. Have the bandwidth for up to 40 players without lag. Can't be online all the time holding your hand :) but it's there if you enjoy the game.

Have 16 mods... Flexible with mods... can add or take away... just leave a suggestion.

Clusters are at www.arkservers.net and type in 4ark for the search. Four servers should pop up. Just click on the map you want. Mods should auto download / then subscribe to keep up to date.

Server checks for updates every hour then gives a 15 minute warning(if there is an update)so you can always log in.before it shuts down and restarts with updates.

Also find info for server / mods here ... http://4arkclusters.forumotion.com/

Join or don't join :) . It's free and it's 4 cluster and will be 5 cluster and will be available for years to come back to after you get board then come back after future updates.

If you have 10 or more players I can setup a stable pvp server. wipe once a month or long term. Have the equipment if you have the players. For 15 players can give you a admin password too one of the servers.

There are over 24,000 unofficial active servers. https://toparkservers.com

There are not 50,000 players only either. You are erroneously using steamchart or steamspy's peak concurrency and daily concurrency average numbers. More people play throughout the day/night. The number of players for ark is almost 10 times that(which you can see on steamspy btw). http://steamspy.com/app/346110

There are plenty of active, populated unofficial servers.

That all said, Wildcard is not going to require licensure for unofficial servers. That's just flat out inane. WC wants players to focus on modded content and customized game play, its essentially what the game was designed/made for. Your perception of this being an issue requiring such an eyerolling solution is just silly.

You do know many of the devs play on unofficial servers with friends or such too and the game is modded content focused right(hence why 3 of our 4 dlcs came from bought out mods and they pay 4k a month stipends to modders they select. Official servers are just basic game showcase servers and nothing more. Your perception, groomed probably from other games, of official servers deserving pedestaling is misplaced. That said, there are plenty of servers that are just as, if not more challenging that what you probably are erroneously attesting officials to be. Unofficial servers thus are primarily again about choice and customability(as the dev's wholly intended).
