How many points is considered good?

I am wanting to get into breeding(with official rates) and I am wondering how many points into a single stat is good. Thanks.

I personally consider 35 good 40 great 45+ ideal.
Don't know how other people gauge it though.

Use Ark Smart Breeding. You can extract data from the game to get accurate numbers that people trust.

It will give you a read out similar to this:
Boss Rex Male (Rex, Lvl 265, Male): HP: 11660.1 (48); St: 1974 (37); Ox: 540 (26); Fo: 12300 (31); We: 920 (42); Dm: 425.7% (51); Sp: 100% (29); To: 26102.5 (264);

And it will even give you a breeding option to list what possible stats and percentages you can get when you breed two dinos together. I highly recommend it.

I start breeding with stats around high 30's / low 40's but I wont stop taming until I have 45 points in the stats I want (without mutations)

If you play MP and dont have a problem with trading, it's probably the fastest way to get you on your way. Check out the trading section of the forum.

for melee you have to add at least 10 points because it gets influenced by taming effectiveness. So while 45 on other stats would be great, 45 on melee is just okay

Unless you use a stat extractor that accounts for taming effectiveness boosts, instead of just a stat calculator.
