Singleplayer character transfer

How do you transfer your character to another Singleplayer map? I tried this over and over using online tutorials and it just refuses to work. Is there an actual way to get this to work?

I got to an obilisk, Click upload character it then takes me back to the respawn screen I then go to a new map lets say the center and the download survivor page is empty, I then go back to the original map and my character is there available to download, Which is of course pointless.

Is this really a hit'n miss feature?

Just did it for the first time myself an hour ago, uploaded a rex, my character and some ascendant pants at the red obelisk on the island, just to test how it works. Started a new game on scorched earth and instead of asking me to create a new survivor when the map loaded a window popped up to let me download my character. Spawned in a dangerous location surrounded by sabres and terror birds and decided I was going to die anyway so I ran like heck towards the nearest obelisk, made it just in time to bring my rex out and kill all the critters chasing me. Everything seemed to work fine, tamed a jerboa and then headed back to the obelisk to transfer back to the island.

Were you trying this for single player? If so the character list should have popped up upon loading the map, before the character creation menus showed up. Unless it failed to upload which I've had happen once, but it worked the second time. So give it a couple of tries and see if that works.

Yeah I'm guessing it failed when I did it. But iv'e got some time before trying again, Basically once I complete this map.

Ok so I still can't get this to work, Iv'e edited my OP to make it more clear at what point I'm at, So if anyone knows why this doesn't work please let me know.

It's possible that for some reason your singleplayer game is trying to enforce a no character downloads rule? I don't know if it's the same in PC but on console that option has a checkbox under the advanced tab after selecting local/host on the main menu.
Can't hurt to check it at least.

The only option pertaining to that is "No survivor downloads" which is unticked, The hover info says "disables downloading survivors from other servers" Iv'e checked and rechecked both General and Advance tabs for anything conserning survivor downloads, That one above is the only thing.

That's the one I thought might have been marked causing the issue, and was my only idea. Hopefully someone else can help you.

After you upload your character you have to either download him again or hit cancel which takes you to the respawn screen, there you'll need to create a new temporary character to get back into the game so you can quit the map and start another or you can alt-tab and close the game. If you respawned the same character you upload it acts like you are downloading him, so he won't be available when you start the new map

AHhhhh, While that makes no technical sense, It makes total sense in this game. Thank you very much, And I can confirm this has worked. Thanks again!

I was having this exact same issue, dude, I cannot thank you enough for this input, I could not find it anywhere else.
