So the Brontosaurus Is not a Brontosaurus?
So I took some time this week and visited a Museum to learn about Dinoaurs. Please feel free to correct me If I am wrong anywhere or let me know if this has come up before.

Apparently the Brontosaurus in Ark is not a Brontosaurus as they labled it. Its actually a Brachiosaurus. The Bronto did not have a fin on its head and it could lift its head higher than a Brachiosaurus, The Brachiosaurus being restricted by its blood vessels. I am told this is an easy thing to Mix up by most people. Seems Ark graphically created the wrong Dino.

For a more clearer example here is a link and pictures of the two differing Dinos:

I just found it interesting is all.

Yes but ark also said their dinos are mutated and mixed with other things. So they don't have to correct to every aspect of the factual Dino.

Well, it is not a brachio. It is a bronto with standard sauropod body and brachio head. Brachio`s frontal legs are a bit higher than rear an it`s body resembles an oversized giraffe with a tail.

Also, dossier has a brachio skull in it while the actual bronto model in game has a head that looks more like what bronto should really have.

Well, triceratops is well hinted as a semi-styracosaur hybrid, and helena herself got quite the temper on her bronto dossier, as she says it might be any other sauropod, but she's the researcher and she decided it's a brontosaur

It's more a lore name than what it should be

It's a game, not an accurate simulation. Hence the Wyverns, Griffins and so forth.

ARK's bronto is nothing like a brachio... Brachios necks were much higher reaching and as previously mentioned, their front limbs were higher than their hind. Regardless of its stupid head... jesus.

That's fine, as the Rex isn't actually a Rex, either. The species in Ark is Tyrannosaurus Dominus, not Tyrannosaurus Rex. Yet it's still called a Rex, and is ~40% larger than the T. Rex was historically. #ArkLogic

As it says in the dossier, it's an amalgam of many different Sauropods, we call it a Bronto because Brontosaurus is one of the most iconic dinosaurs, and really the poster boy for the entire sauropod family, and because in terms of lore Helena calls it a Bronto because she wants to, 'My dossiers, my rules'.

The dossier does depict its skull as more of Brachiosaurid, however it's clear in 'real life' as it were that the skull is shaped differently, and the differences between Brachiosaurs and Apatosaurs are much more than a differently shaped skull, Brachiosaurs had much longer front legs than rear (it's name means Arm Lizard) giving it a much much different posture and lifestyle to the lower slung Apatosaurs.

Oh ok, that is good to know that they are a mix, artistic expression and all that. Makes sense. Still was interesting information : ) To those other people, yes it is a game and this is just an interested conversation I am having with dino's, calm down.

All your answers were very interesting. Thank you for your responses~!

"Some may think this is an Apatosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Argentinosaurus, or some other sauropod, but this is a strange Island, and I'm the one doing the research. I'm convinced that this genus is Brontosaurus, and no one can tell me otherwise. My study, my rules."

Speaking of, I'd really love it if they added an actual styracosaurus. I know a lot of people are complaining about new content over bug fixes (even though my potato experiences very little of these bugs - that damn night-lighting glitch aside of course) but I'm hoping for some new creatures outside of the forthcoming DLCs.

Would also like to see a good few more therapod species and increased spawn rates just to make the game that bit more challenging. Acrocanthosaurus, carcharadontosaurus, ceratosaurus, albertosaurus, tarbosaurus and velociraptor (the real actual turkey sized one).

Would love if they added brachiosaurus as well, maybe sauroposeidon and argentinosaurus...

I feel like I'm getting a little carried away now.

Also worth noting that Ark was ahead of the game somewhat in that when it was released in June 2015 it was still largely acknowledged that there was no such thing as Brontosaurus because when O.C. Marsh first discovered and named it during the great bone wars of the late 19th century, it was concluded that there wasn't enough evidence to differentiate it from the previously discovered and named Apatosaurus (also discovered by Marsh), and therefore it remained as a synonym for Apatosaurus rather than its own distinct genus. It was only in late 2015 that researchers announced that no, studies had concluded that Brontosaurus could be considered a unique genus after all, and it was allowed to be its own thing and children of the world could rejoice, because after all, 'Thunder Lizard' is a much better name than 'Deceptive Lizard' for a ginormous earth shaking many tonned beast.

Gonna cook your noodle(since you've not watched or done ascension).

*Spoilers*

1. There are no "dino's" in Ark.
2. There are no "humans" in Ark.

Your character is ♥♥♥♥ deus, a technologically evolved speciation. Same technology creates the "dinos", griffins, dragons, and other creatures on the arks.

Thus suspend disbelief and comparrisons fully on the fossil record. Otherwise, you're going to drive yourself nuts.
