Obvious queston. Did the patches reset graphics settings?

Could use some details about your set up to help.

Yeah, I noticed this too. They enabled Gamma didn't they? Drop console and type Gamma 1.8. If you have a NVidia GPU then you can adjust Brightness, Contrast, Gamma and Vibrance in the NVidia Control Panel under the Adjust Desktop Colour Settings item. Put game into Windowed Full screen so you can see the affect of the sliders in realtime. But, for some reason the game is looking a little more washed out than usual. Possibly the fog.

I messed with my settings in control panel and get this (epic preset). Added Vibrance back in to remove some of the muted colours.

That wierd reflection in the upper part is the ocean. At this distance it is just a mirror of the sky but I do have the "clear water" mod installed so It could be that.

What Op sees in his screenshot is the "haze" added by the devs as part of the optimization. It is different from "The Fog" which they seem to have reduced in the number of times it arrives, thank the raptor gods.

Tthe "Haze" reduces detail in the distance and allows lower LODs as the distance increases. This is called "optimization". Don't fix the game, just add a layer of fuzz.

I have seen LOTS of posts of people complaining about this for the last couple of months, including screenshots like yours.

My The Island map has looked like this if not worse since they "improved" ambient fog. Still waiting for the day they allow a slide bar in the client settings and a .ini for servers to adjust the frequency, duration and severity of weather effects.

It has to be the game. On my set up I see some odd stuff on occasion. The shadowing does weird things. The textures do weid things. I run a 980Ti in Surround (6144x1152) and it can handle epic settings, but never at much better than playable fps. To get high fps you have to tone it down so much it starts to look aweful. Enviromental effects like the desnse fog causes some slow down.

it's just poorly optimized. The latest nVidaia drivers did help though. It's better than it used to be but, nowhere near where it should be.

I would love to see this at 4k in Surround at 60+ fps with all the goodies cranked up. That PC would be epic.
