Legacy servers are before the full release of ARK. So basically old servers that has been up since nearly launch of early access. They will get shut down eventually, a lot of them has already been.
You can't transfer items / dinos / characters between these 2 kind of servers. It's 2 different clusters of servers.

Nitrado is just a hosting company, they supply them with servers. Atleast that's how I have understood it.

Of course it's dead, and that's the purpose of making them legacy. I rather have them shut down all the old servers and put up some new ones that runs better. Just a waste of money and servers, to have legacy servers so that a few people can play on them, while the majority of the player base who plays official servers, are struggling with full servers and waiting time.

theres also issue where legacy servers dont get customer support

"Important Customer Support Legacy Information
When the current servers become Legacy servers on the 29th, we will no longer offer Customer Support to these Legacy servers. All outstanding tickets to our Customer Support team will be wiped clean on launch day, and no future tickets submitted by those playing on Legacy servers will be accepted. Going forward our Customer Support team will be focused on assisting those present on the new cluster, which will not be plagued by many of the issues that occurred during the Early Access process. Unfortunately it is beyond the scope of our operation to continue to offer support on Legacy servers at this time."

True. Minor problem tho.
I've played since start of early access, never had to use support and can't see why I should. They never listen and answer anyway :D

I have seen zero difference in performance. And all they did by giving up on the old server was tear apart a genuinely good community, something im told is a rare thing on official :p.

Perfomance difference is huge!!!
On the new server when it's full 70/70 I can have a stable ping of 30 and also no rubberanding "save lag"

When the legacy servers reaches more than 15 players, the ping will be 100-200 high.
The community on official servers are in general good, I haven't experienced any bad community in all those many servers I have been played on.

Thats good at least. So far its been pretty decent on this new one but there is a boxbox tribe running around drowning people, caught one red handed trying to drag a tribe mate out of the base. Hehe.

Simple: On a legacy server you get mangled by the old alpha tribes, that are afraid of any real competition.
On the new official servers you get mangled by the old alpha tribes, that switched to the new cluster, and are very afraid of any real competition.

If you play PVP yes. And why would you do that in this game, the PVP aspect is so bad
