Phoenix updated
*The entire post was edited after retesting multiple phoenixs from multiple lvls after all the patchs*

Before the patchs i found the phoenix was a disgrace a clear 1/10 in usefulness same score as a spider.
After the patchs i have found it's usefulness has risen by alot 5/10 (same score as a wolf).

It's only issues right now are:

Health is still about 30% too low with 19 points it's 1,920,
The weights still 33% too low,
stanima is 33% too low,
The flames + colors look really cartoony they are in huge need of saturation,
when using flame boost (aka super speed) you cant see where your going due to the flames,
it never lands making it incrediblely hard to get onto and access the inventory of,
and...there is no rebirth!!! it's a firebird atm not a phoenix!

Other then those slight issues it has become a decent tame,
To express exactly how i feel about the creature i will give you the exact stats and tamed points in each which i am accessing using super spy glass "an amazing mod for breeders"

The phoenix was lvl 100 and after tame was lvl 150.

health 1920 (19)
Stanima 508 (25)
food 6,900 (36)
oxy 420 (18)
weight 185 (28)
melee 210.8 (23)
speed 100 (0)

So the phoenix has risen in usefulness about still got a long way to go.

I'd say if you dont find a lvl 150 then it's not really worth the effort.
Also just follow it and wait til the heatwave ends and build a 2 by 2 and 3 high stone cage around where the ashs were so when the next one comes you can easily tame it as without that it is nearly impossible to tame without a fire wyvern.

Of all my annoyances i gotta say it's NO REBIRTH making it a firebird not a phoenix since the phoenixs defining trait is it's ability to rise from the ashs.

A guy on another thread had a brilliant idea,
for the rising make the ashs into a sort of egg,
pick the egg up place it into a fireplace and it turns to a baby phoenix,
then you raise the phoenix up and can imprint.

not overpowered this way and that madness lvl work to get one pays off.

Oh and it can smelt metal to metal ingots and cook food in it's inventory at a rate of 1 per 4 seconds.

I will admit without superboost speed it's movement is 900 or so meaning raptor speed,
with superspeed which burns about 10 stanima asecond it's speed increases to byond even pter and wyvern.
Did a test between 2 rocks the phoenix on super speed took 4.7 seconds and the wyvern took 6.5

Just read up on it, Phoenix's c attack damages up to stone and Phoenix's r attack damages metal
DrathDragoon33 Sep 6, 2017 @ 9:15pm
yeah, thanks to my testing with the phoenix. The metal dmg is amazing bad tho. It would take a few hours to melt a metal wall or foundation.

Also, read up on the myth of the firebird, which is a seperate creature from the phoenix. It isn't actually made of fire, it just glows. But it can heal the sick, and when it does

It poops pearls

But Ark phoenix neither revives like the phoenix or heals like the firebird. So it looks like the devs combined the two myths, but left out the coolest parts of both. I still really like the phoenix, I think its fine as is, but I still wouldn't mind improvements as that makes it better.

The phoenix does heal itself when its hit by fire. Heals a lot too.

A large group of phoenixs could disintegrate a metal base though if the group was large enough. Stone damage isn't good either, but again, you'd need a ton for them to be effective.

Yes, high damage, high stamina phoenixes could be used to melt a base in an offline raid. But don't forget that it would still take some time, and the phoenixes are massive lights in the sky. They would be easily targeted and shot by bullets or homing rockets.

Ok, just did a recomfirmation test of the phoenix fireball. Since I did the initial tests before the updates. It looks like the fireball no longer does damage to fire. It must have been a bug that the patches corrected.

Like when the giga was released and it could damage metal :/

I tried the fireball on pve but it doesn't seem to do dmg or light anything on fire?

Yep, noticed the same thing but idk if its a bug or if its meant for pvp.

If you hit the ground with it, it catches on fire, then anything that passes through that fire will burn. For some reason the damage is not credited towards the phoenix, so you will not see floating damage numbers if you have them. I have tested it tho, it does the same damage as the DoT dmg from the phoenixes other attacks.

a copy paste from my thing above is
it can smelt metal to metal ingots and cook food in it's inventory at a rate of 1 per 4 seconds.
impressive for early to mid game but useless agienst a industrial forge.
and the phoenix requires end game to tame,

damage wise the phoenix is perfect,
i totaly hate that it does not revive,
you cant clone it,
you cant breed it,
it does not land,
it's health isent that impressive,
ect.

all up i still give it a 5/10 til they at the very least turn it into a phoenix by adding the ability to revive it/rehatch it through the ashs.

or they can release the dev kit and i and the rest of the modders can fix it for them since they are taking days to do something modders can fix in mins.

It's ok buddy, I have a feeling they will "fix" it. But still though, this is only an issue on official servers and there are like only 10 of those or something right now yeah? So this only affects 700 people who even manage to get into official servers and a few of them manage to tame the phoenix. Like you said, when the devkit comes there will be tons of phoenix mods all over the place. All unofficial servers will have their own versions of phoenix and so on.

There is only 3 things I really hope they change right now, the looks of the phoenix, it looks like crap. They should make it sit/land. Oh and also make it revive. If it dies it should give a sort of ash you take to a volcano or put in a fireplace and get a baby/egg, I have a feeling this is what will happen too. Just give it some time :)

No it says the DoT effect doesn't count towards a kill for instance. You have to use a direct attack like left click or C to count for a kill.

Just read more into the myth of the Phoenix. Apparently the Phoenix never makes contact with the Earth in its lifetime. Hence why it can't land. It would be cool if they added a perch for it, as it can land on those, but it can't land on the earth st any point in its lifetime.
