Put it all into melee damage, as they gain a ton per point put into it. It adds to the insulation they give. With enough melee damage, (Well over 1000%) you can probably ditch fur armor in the cold regions. Riding an Argentavis and the like also adds a bit of insulation as well, so that helps.

They gain hardly any health, but a few points in it can help them survive fights with sabertooth salmon. If they start to get mobbed by them, you need to rescue them ASAP.

If you can get high levels and breed them, I'd say getting 2000% melee damage is possible, and that would maybe let you survive the Murder Murder Snow region in Ragnarok if you're also wearing Fur Armor.
