Issue, can't run ARK in windowed, or WindowedFullsreen mode? AMD issue?
I have recently updated my AMD drivers to the newest version which is 17.7.2 and then after updating my drivers I decided to reinstall ARK to see how it fairs since it has been released and then I noticed having an issue where while the game is in windowed mode the game is like paused and only unpauses when I alt-tab out.

I then tried fullscreen, and that works and allows me to play, but if I change it to fullscreenWindowed then all I get is a black screen, I can still here the game playing and stuff so it didn't freeze.

Here is a video that I uploaded to youtube of it first screwing up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKPj7QlocTM

Specs:
AMD 8350 4.0Ghz
7870 2gb OC edition
8gb Ram
WIndows 10
1 tb HDD
1080p

I already validated the files, I even completely reinstalled ark and yet it still seems to not work for windowed or fullscreenwindowed.

I am putting this here to see if other people with AMD cards are having issues with not being able to have it in windowed mode, and if they did and managed to fix it maybe they can help me out?

Does it still work for you in fullscreen mode, just not windowed/windowedfullscreen?

Unless maybe the newest drivers for AMD are now supported or something, since the last time that I can remember ARK working was like 3 months ago when I played it and I had 17.1.1 as the drivers.

It is just freezing on the server list when you try joining a server? have you maybe tried alt tabbing then going back to it to see if it would refresh it or something?

And if in windowed mode, maybe try fullscreen option and see if that works.

When I try to join the server

Maybe it is just taking awhile for it to load to join a server, also what could be happening as well is maybe you are joining an unofficial server that has mods so it can take awhile to download mods so that is why it may look like it is freezing.

Yeah I'm having same problem, even just leaving it on the main menu it will crash after about 30 seconds. It was fine this morning but now it keeps crashing, so they broke something.

I think your is probably seperate then mine... I think it might be maybe my computer now that could be causing it... maybe a new driver is doing it? since I just tried another UE4 enabled game and it acts the same way as ARK. Where the game works in full screen, but then when it is windowed, or windowed full screen I get a black screen or that pause look.

Edit: seems like it is only UE4 games I am having this issue with, UE3 games like XCOM2 is working fine.

edit2: now after installing the AMD driver 17.7.2 it seems to work now on ARK windowed? maybe corrupt driver install?

Id just like to say cudos to you for doing everything at your end to find a solution instead of flipping a table and blaming Ark 1st.... its rare in these forums

I kind of screwed up on my edit there, I mean when I uninstalled the amd driver 17.7.2 I was able to launch it without a driver and it worked while windowed mode.

I then used AMDs removal tool, to remove all traces of AMD products on my computer and have installed the newer optional 17.8.2 driver version and am going to see if this fixes it.

edit: still have same issue, so not sure what could be the issue, since it seems to work when I have no AMD driver installed, but as soon as I install a driver... then is whne it starts to act up?

I think I might be done troubleshooting for tonight, only next step would be redownload my 17.1.1 if I can find the file for it, since that was my version 3 months ago when the game worked correctly.

Yeah ... driver rollback might be an option.

It ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ works!

I decided to download 17.1.1 and now it works in windowed mode... so the new AMD drivers at least on my end are bugged and UE4 doesn't seem to want to work in windowed mode while using the newest drivers.

It's not the UE4 Engine. I can run other UE4 games just fine in windowed mode. Just like I could with this gamebefore Wildcard screwed it up. The source of the problem is that buggy mess we call "Ark Survival evolved" and Devs who rather focus on new expansions instead of fixing essential core issues like rubberbanding and performance (which would turn this mess into an actual, playable game). It's now end of October and it is still not possible to run the game in windowed mode with up to date drivers.

If you can charge $60, at least deliver a working product.

Get your ♥♥♥♥ together, Wildcard!

Replying to a thread that was created in august. Your necromancy skills are terrible

That was intended, since the issue is still not fixed. Your reading skills are terrible.
