Why do people like this game?

Literally one of the most poorly optimised games I have ever played, and not only that but even on "Epic" it looks absolutely NOTHING like the current footage / screens being floated around as advertisements.

Also, sure the high end gameplay is fun...but it takes way too many hours to get to and that's provided you don't get yourself killed constantly or your stuff stolen. Ironic thing is I'm writing this and as a level 1 character another player at level 34 just killed me...and I have nothing.

wait until you lose a few months of dinos/buildings to a raid while you sleep. farm rates are too slow on officials but the 3x events are decent. makes the game almost playable.

Officials are for masochists and people in mega tribes. If you try to make it out on your own then you're gonna have a bad time, especially if you're a new player. Try singleplayer or search for an unofficial server you might like and see if your experience is any better.

I can tell you that official servers are not a friendly place to start out learning the game, especially solo. Start off in single player, get the hang of the mechanics, and then find a nice unofficial server where there are rules and active admins to enforce those rules. Took me a bit of shopping around but I've been quite happy with the server I've been on for the past year or so. Community is everything on a game like Ark, and official servers have pretty toxic communities. Not all of them, but most do. They usually spew the "It's PVP bro, get over it. Get good. You play PVE bro? Coward.", but those are the same people who won't try raiding someone until they go offline for the night or work/school.

Just find a nice server with people of the same mindset as you, and Ark is an extremely entertaining and addicting game. Between PC and Xbox I've got well over 3000 hours in it, and I still enjoy it because of the people I've met and the experiences we had together.

So this is your first time playing? And you went for pvp?
Are you not setting launch options to optimize you're gameplay? I'm afraid there are only a few places that post about optimizing the game for better frames. I started playing without launch options that filter the graphics a little. The game doesn't run as poorly as it did. I have a great PC, 1st gen icore 7 and it runs decent. The game is still in beta and you're playing early access so I wouldn't expect much from the game.

So why do people play this game? I don't know I have over 3k hours and I can't seem to stop. Taming dinos, riding on dinos, horses, alligators, etc, building amazing structures, or log cabins with a fence to protect my farm and tamed creatures. Yes the game is a bit sci fi, it does have tek technology. Something about the obelisk. Boss fights that requre some dedication to reach that end game. Not the greatest end game ever made but its something to work toward that I really enjoy.

(I know even after release it will need some tweaks. That's a given.)

its optimized better then fallout 4 thou, get 70-80 frames on ark in my base while i get 39-54 frames on fallout 4.

Luckily teh official servers are getting wiped and wildcard are leaving some 'legacy servers' up, which will be completely disconnected from teh new ones to hopefull contain the toxic element. It wont work for long though. Sooner rather than later the new servers will be ruined by the same old people and teh new players will just quit playing altogether or just move to unofficials. I guess at least the new players will have a week or so before teh officials become unplayable again (I dont think wildcard appreciates just how quickly vets can level/build)

I like this game because I enjoy it. Despite the issues, it's fun for me.

I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand.

Than up your crappy resolution and get a card that supports all options. Because it looks way better than the footage shown on the product page.

If the game looks like ♥♥♥♥, your hardware and software is ♥♥♥♥, not the game. The game gives you way better graphics than whats shown on the product page, as I already said.

Just about every company does this. It's called marketing. Ubisoft is especially guilty.

Game is good. Everyone loves it at some point. Until devs ♥♥♥♥♥ them up. One update devs delete all cookers, one update devs delete all rockets, one day devs kicks you from a server, destroys your tribe, one day devs perma ban you. Good game bad devs.

More like ungreatful gamers. People like you have over 4000 hours in this early acces game. By now you should know your a beta tester. Thats what you agreed on when playing the game in early acces. It says so on the product page.
