ARK 2015 vs. ARK 2017 performance/optimization
I see a lot of ppl asking about optimization. Has there been any, does the game perform better than before? Well... yes. If you have played since the game was released to Steam's Early Access you can definitely say yes there has been improvements. However I see several replies to these questions from players who insist no optimization has ever been done. Most of the players who say no usually have less than 500 hours under their belts. I know that seems like a lot but ARK is very addictive... so much that many players are in the thousands of hours.

To demonstrate what has been done with optimization I have dug through some Youtube videos trying to find a June 2015 player review of the game that doesn't involve some guy screaming like a little girl cause they just saw a trex.

https://youtu.be/JVWizWIPbcI
In this video the reviewer states that they are using a Radeon HD 7970 which is comparable to a GTX 1050 ti. This is June 2015.. the graphics were indeed that bad, and when a storm hit the trees fold in half and do a head bang. It was rather spectacular.

So in search of trying to find a really recent video with a GTX 1050 ti to be on par with the HD 7970... I found this video. Now the person playing is using half the ram and their processor is an Intel Pentium which is on the far region of the non-gaming spectrum of processors... it's that bad of a CPU. So Pentium, 4GB, and GTX 1050 ti. Honestly I was surprised at this video.

I was going to post another video, however locating a highend system review that was done in the past 2 weeks was sorta odd.... there wasn't any that would really work. Most of the videos involved ppl who are trying way to hard to be jacksepticeye. I just didn't want to troll this forum with that kind of horror. So instead I will just link the ARK Survival Evolved Launch Trailer that was posted 7 hours ago. Enjoy.

I can only agree, i remember the days when i played with a AMD A8-6600K, GTX 960 4GB and 8GB of DDR3 RAM and struggled, now i have a very mainstream 'high end' set up i5-6600K and GTX 1070 and 16GB of DDR4 and run the game at pretty much epic settings across the board at min 40 fps even with a lot going on around me (only foliage density and distance are not maxed for me).

the ironic part is, a pack of sealed in box floppies these days would probably cost more than a 2TB mechanical HDD.... simply because of their rarity, lol

£16.26 for box of 10

Imagine ordering ARK in retail form, and you are sent 27,000+ 3.5" floppy disk. The act of installing the game would take a few months to install. ;)

LOL at the 100(ish)GB install size it would still take 100,000 100MB Zip disks to install ARK.... and by the time you reach the end, your Zip drive would definitely have developed the "click of death" xP

Whoah whoah whoah.... I'm way off, lol it would take 1000 100Mb Zip disks lmao

yeah, now to educate my kids, they found my flopy backup disk and asked why i have 3d printed save Icon's...

but any way maybe using the trailor which was rendered in post probbly by more then one machine would be a bad current represenation of the games currrent state. though i will completely agree with you progress has been made in leeps and bounds i used to barely push 30fps now i bounce around 60-80 (even when its raining!) which is kinda nice.
