Ark looks crap in 3440x1440 Ultrawide
Don't get me wrong once you change the FOV in game it looks ok. However, the UI,hud, inventory and main menu looks stretched, and I mean really badly.

Anyone else with ultrawide montiors notice this?

Therefore nobody buys such a ultrawide screen ^^ Many games have problems with that and needs to be adjusted manually.

Games are mostly optimised for 16:9 which is FullHD, 2K, 4K

No issues here at 3440x1440 don't notice any stretching originally played at 1080P, hud and UI are in the right proportions, with no stretch, so not sure what the issue you are seeing is, but sounds like something may be set wrong.

With people like you we'd still play on 4:3 and say 16:9 is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. More and more people buy 21:9 and you never go back to 16:9 once you tried. They feels so good. And most game work very well whatever the resolution.

I don't have such issue on my ultrawide monitor... Hmmm try to run the game in windowed mode first 3440x1440 then windowedfullscreen then fullscreen.

Concerning FOV without tweaking it is not optimal for ultrawide. Because the game sets a horizontal FOV instead of a vertical one.

There's a simple tweak to make the game set the FOV vertically instead of horizontally, which is much more adequate for any games and any monitors.

go to "\ARK\Engine\Config" then open BaseEngine.ini within notepad, CTRL+F and fine the line
AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainXFOV and replace it to AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV and voilà. Then ingame adjust the FOV slider to your liking, but beware, FOV is much wider now so setting the slider to 20-30% is enough. This tweak is even more usefull for multimonitor setup.

There's absolutely no relation. It would have been smarter to compare it to new 18:9 smartphones vs "old" 16:9 one and still it's not even related to ultrawide monitor. They do not have the same usages. I don't game, I don't work and I don't watch movies on my smartphone.

Btw I have android smartphone with minijack and I don't want compagnies to remove I/O such as the mini jack.

I agree, a better comparison would be to an S8 or S8+, although I'm inclined to agree with the 16:9 comment, I have 18:9 on my S8 and I would never go back.

Anyway the OP needs to manually adjust his display settings if things look too stretched.

hi, i have a 3440x1440 screen, and it works fine for me, BUT I HATE having to put down the graphics to get fps, i would really like my resolution on full, but thats the main cause why my game lags
MikjoA Nov 23, 2019 @ 7:41am
3440x1440 = 5 millions pixels it's signicantly harder to run than 16/9 2560x1440.
It's in between 2560x1440 and 4K.

Thank you so much! I've been playing this on my ultra wide (5120x1440) monitor and it just felt so off. This dramatically improved the look of the game. Had to put my POV slider back to 0 because it worked so good!

OMG. someone read a post from ages ago and wanted to thank the person who supplied the information that helped.
In addition said person had actually done a search or looked instead of just posting a new... old question.
