Convention in real life is Lat/lon, but in ark the GPS is Lon/lat so people genrally read it that way.

That's not even remotely accurate.
In Ark:
Map reads LAT then LON.
GPS reads LAT then LON.

Well really, what's the difference as long as you know which is Lat and which is Long you can still plot it.

The difference is that people dont' say 82 lat, 53 lon. They just say 82/53, so having a standard is important.

No on my server the players usually do say lat and long when they give their locations. Probably because they aren't familiar with it and don't realize there is or should be a standard. So it usually does get stated.

Most people I see say Lat/Lon for a while after they start playing, but eventually start to assume they just don't need to anymore, as anyone they'd be giving coordinates to should know what they mean by that point, unless that other person is new them selves
