ARK: Survival Evolved
PC shut down during ARK and other Steam Games
I have been constantly having problems with steam shutting my computer down, used to be Conan, does in Dark and Light, and especially ARK. now before people say "Its a overheating problem or a CPU problem", it is not. neither temps are above 141 F and the power supply is bad it isn't. My power supply is more than adequate for my computer. It ONLY happens on Steam Games, never any other. This would lead me to believe a problem with a software conflict. Yes it doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen more than normal it seems, all with the same symptoms.now it also shuts the computer down when exiting the game.If you are going to be selling the game on the open market, as long as the system meets minimum requirements , this problem should not exist. It does not exist in Origin games, or on any games I have independently installed on my computer. BTW my CPU and Graphics card are able to run ARK in Epic mode with no frame rate issues.

You have to trace it back to the device that is losing power. First you look at power supply, then motherboard, and then CPU. If it was memory, gpu, or hdd it would still have power. Also they would produce an error message of some sort that the user can see.
overheat isn't considered at all? Only losing power? :)

IT Crowd "Try to turn it off them on, bye"
Any system that is under 10 years old have sensors to detect over heating. The motherboard will reduce the voltage to those components in order to let it cool down while it speeds up the system fans. Same thing with video cards. The processor will even freeze and stop doing calculations if it is at risk to preserve itself. But in any case, the system wouldn't do a complete power loss without some sort of warning about overheating.

Unfortunately those are generic error IDs. It just states that Windows noticed that it was started without having a shutdown logged.
overheating CPU
dust off your PC chasis
Overheating generally just causes throttling or crashing, not shutdowns.

generally
when throttling doesn't help it shuts down to prevent damage.

btw, we still don't see the OP's system specs.
maybe it's a dusty laptop and he's just changed it's "power supply" :)
Unless this is his system, then it's ARKs fault for everything.

hey, it's brand new 100$ gaming PC!
Go into your BIOS and check the shutdow temp.
no Lameover, not a "dusty laptop" a dust free desktop, gets cleaned monthly

whats a good temp to have it set at for steam games?

Cpu overheating can cause shutdown. If it gets too hot reboots the pc to avoid damage.

Happened to me in the past with AMD cpu using stock cooler.

80°C or 176°F are safe, around 90° or 194° is close to the throttling limit. Of course cooler is always better.

What is the watts of your power supply and what is the req watts for your gpu? I had a problem a long time ago. I was running a 250 watt power supply with a 500 watt GPU. The computer always shut down when playing games. I was told to buy a 500 watt or more PSU. After that i never had it shut down again. If all you power stats are right. then check temps of all hardware. I would watch my temps and recreate the problem. See what exactly is going wrong. If all else fail buy a newer computer.
I'm gonna have to mirror what the majority of people here have been saying.... This sounds like classic PSU failure..... but, it would help greatly to know what you've got under the hood, CPU, GPU, Motherboard, and PSU... also if you're CPU is at all overclocked(a bad overclock can sometimes cause restarts as well... even if temps are OK). Other possibilities could be that the VRM or some caps on your mobo are going bad.... the southbridge could be overheating or starting to fail...... We've even seen examples of really cheap motherboards with burnt PCIE slots caused by graphics cards trying to pull too much power from the slot...... that might cause restarts as well....... I'd say it's very likely down to your mobo or PSU though.
