Why I love this game Ark Survival Evolved.
So I was going into the steam store looking at the old Final Fantasy 10/x-2 in its remastered state. I have not bought it, but I decided to listen to the music since its been a great peaceful meditator when I need something to just chill to listen to. Always put me in a good mood.

(Getting to talk about Ark bare with me.)
I was reading the reviews on this game and came across a negative review. It pointed out obvious flaws in the game, stabbed at the storyline, and without getting into detail you can imagine what else they might have pointed out. But far from destructive critism.

After thinking about what was written. I openly agreed with the review. Finding as I played Final Fantasy 10 multiple times growing up I could think back to the times when I found something lacking in the game based upon what was said.

After agreeing, I immediately put in some additional thoughts. I love that game. I thought to myself, despite its flaws, some awkward or story that seemed a bit less polished, I really enjoyed the experience of going from one place to another on a long journey through Spira with a singular goal. And the physical, mental, and emotional obstacles the characters had to overcome. To me its successes for me outweigh its flaws. Its a game I would find myself playing again and again and again. When I couldn't find time to rehash my experience through the game I would just listen to the music soundtrack.

So what is it about Ark, why do I love it despite its flaws? Just as anyone here can find merit in both positive and negative reviews, I find myself playing it regardless. My experience has only gone as far as some private boosted servers, official PVP servers, Hardcore, no taming pvp servers, and currently playing official PvE servers. So I can't speak for the game entirely as a whole, but i CAN TELL YOU my gaming experience with taming dinosaurs, fighting dragons, spiders, apes, tek gear, primitive gear, making friends and everything else in between I would not change it for the world.

I have grown with it and thankfully the game is getting more polished and fixed everyday. I await patiently as I play to the final day when the last patch comes. Which I'm sure will be some time after official release.

Complain on forums because you love it, report bugs because you love it. And enjoy the game with your rivals because you love it.

This is a game that stands out above the rest on steam in unique ways. And for a long time gamer since the days of atari and nintendo, I can say with confidence there is no other game quite like it.

i will say this for the 700+ hours i have gotten out of the game i loved it. but the last six months has been an embarrasing tumult of poor communication, community over expectation, and frankly just plain incompetence. The release delay was the ffinal straw that will probably stop me from playing altogether, especially in light of how amazing dark and light is, ironically by their owners :) So was nice knowing you ark.

O, ARK is great for the amount I paid for it, like 20 euro or something. It's just that with the amount of feedback the devs got from everybody playing this game for two years while it got build around them, they should've been able to complete the game BEFORE putting it on the store for 60 Euro. The key difference between FFX and ARK is that Square didn't have millions of (potential) testers that (could) give them feedback in development. When your backers give you feedback about animals walking through walls, falling through floors, etc for two years, you oughta fix that ♥♥♥♥ before you put it up for sale at the full price!!! Otherwise the whole Early Access part doesn't make any sense now, does it?

I love ARK
I "hate" the developers

Solid post.

I always put it this way when I need to give a short and sweet reason for playing Ark. I have about 60 friends on steam, give or take. I met 56 of them on Ark.

Ark needs to be quite more optimized so it doesn't burn out graphics cards.

It had to rise to $60 to match the retail version since retailers wanted to put the game up for preorder. It kind of had to happen.

It had to rise to that amount because Wildcard wants to get it in the store. It's wildcard's decision to put an unfinished product in the store, not the game's fault nor the brick and mortar shops.

Wildcard doesn't want an unfinished product in the store. You do know what a preorder is right? It's essentially purchasing a product prior to release and WC is essentially finished with the console version, they spent last month working on it. The only thing they'll have left is the day one patch.

i have never played an alpha version of a game this excessive. i don't think i even sunk 500+ hours on ANY retail game.. and if so, afterwards i was so sick and tired of that game that i never ever touched it again. been a gamer for 35+ years now.

with ark, i got around 400+ hours in, also played a few months on the ps4 when it got released, but decided to stick to the pc version because of private servers and the buddies i wanted to play with did not own a ps4.

for me, ark is the game of the decade.
it puts every other survival/crafting game to shame.

when this game will be fully polished one day it will be hard for any dev team to top this experience ark provides. many have tried and they all failed. last year some incapable dev-team wanted to provide such an experience in space and they utterly fell flat on their noses destroying their reputation for good.

but also... no other game has cost me more nerves than ark :P
seriously, i can't wait for the ark devs to get their stuff fixed. and as annoyed as i am as the next nerd who is complaining about no proper communication between early access players and the devs - as a software developper myself i can somehow relate. if you need to get stuff done you don't chat around saying yes to each and every idea or fantasy - be they as good and as logic as they definitely are. and if you are in above your head (capability or time wise) you also don't go around chatting about how screwed your time management is. cut them some slack.

Ark is still a great game, but after playing it for almost two years, I'm tired of it. But I still think it will continue to be one of the top played games.
