Idk if this is true but people say when u unlock 100% of all explorer notes there is a story everything thats happening in ark dunno if that explains the implants but anyways implants have to do something with obelisks bcs they resamble each other in shape as far as i see it implants for now is like yr ID or finger print in rl... will it be explained in future maybe but yea can try to dig a bit yrself :D

The specimen chips are mainly there for the story. That chip is the same one thats in your arm I'm assuming. It has no use in game except to look cool or something. Seeing as the ARK is supposed to be an expiriment or something, it is meant to say that it is something that the people who are running the expiriment are using to track you or something.

When the character awakes for the first time on the shore, he or she notices it, scratches at it. So it must be something they are not used to. As in the inventory it says "suvival quotient to be determined" I guess it is some kind of a blackbox that the creators of the ark will look at when your life has ended.

when your character dies he/she isnt really dead they just come back and they are confused on how they are back after dying

Respawn mechanic is not canon after the update that added the new explorer notes. The implant is something like the pip-boy from fallout franchise (with all the use it to access your inventory and see your conditions) and probably send info to ark overlords.

A bit off topic. I wish they would add something when you die to the implants you recover.

I.e. "Survived 300 days. Death: Idiot jumped off Argent. The resulting crater was mildly impressive."
