How to disable vr in ARK?
Okay, I need to better explain the title here. Because what I really want to say. "How do I keep oculus rift store from poping up when I launch ARK?"

The reason being is when the oculus store is up. I am assuming the VR software is running in the background as my rift headset is warm. I don't want to have to disconnect my rift just to play ARK without it coming on. Beside the VR in Ark is very bad so I don't see why it has to launch my rift store.

Jiggyfly40 I figured out how to play Ark without Vr. Go to run type in Services.msc. Then scroll down until you find oculus VR Runtime Service. stop the service and set it to start manually. Now you can play ark without it starting Vr. But if you want to play Vr you have to restart the service

I got another question, how do you play Ark in VR? I got an Oculus too and the white screen "Ark is taking to load" pops up and don't disappear. Do you guys have a fix?

Ark runs very poorly in VR. At-least it did at the time this thread was posted *july 14, 2017*. So I disabled it. Now if its taking forever to load in vr I honestly couldn't tell you how to fix it as I did not have that problem.

But I would recommend not playing it in VR as it is poorly ported to VR. It doesn't feel like a true VR experience and will lag/make you sick.

Go into Properties for Ark and on the first page General at the bottom type '-nohmd' in the launch options. Without the quotes.

-nohmd removes vr compatibility.

To play in VR , while very crappy, you have to put -dx10 in launch options. You also have to full load ark then go to options in game and enable hmd.. You then can't leave hmd when and if you get it finally working as it will break. I am very annoyed that they show ark having vr support and poorly impliment it.

LoL Years later people are still having this problem -- Myself included.

Just use the steam launch command -nohmd for Ark
I shall revive this thread in 2025 because I found it and the -nohmd works to stop the program trying to start VR :D

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
