Can't Place Simple Bed

I haven't played Ark in a long time until recently, I want to say about a week or two ago.

I also don't update it as of last week due to space issues.

Now, whenever I place structures, I usually drag the item icon into my tool bar belt, and then I press the corresponding number to bring up the placement option, and then I place.

However, for some odd reason, the structure for Simple Bed will not even show up.
I searched google for suggestions and all I've found was that people have a problem with placing structures, but they can actually SEE the red silhouette. Mine does not appear at all, as if I'm not pressing the number for it.

When I press the assigned number for the bed, it glows green to signify that I am indeed pressing the necessary input.

Any clues?
tl:dr simple bed cannot be placed/silhouette doesnt even show up when prompted; YES I can place sleeping bag no problem.

In a base or on a raft? Cause sometimes bed can not be placed on rafts if you are too close to another base. (you need to move the raft away)

You can't place it on the ground like a sleeping bag, it needs to be on a foundation or ceiling.

Yeah thats what I meant, I'll be inside a house I built, aiming at a foundation, and nothing. I tested outside to see if it was just the foundation and it wasn't. the whole placement highlight just never shows up regardless of where I am

is this single player or server, that wasn't stated. I ask because if it's on a server/multiplayer without the updates you could be having some conflicts. If it's single player I'm really not sure other then it may need an update or the files verified.

Then try verifying your files, if that doesn't work then my best suggestion would be uninstall and reinstall.

Make sure you are trying to place a bed and not the Engram. I've done that several times. Somehow the Engram ends up on my bar instead of the item itself.

Thats because you are dragging the engram from your crafting menu rather than the built item from inventory. I am building the actual item, but for some reason the simple bed specifically won't work. Nothing else in the game is not working so far (I don't use late game stuffs, I'm still a noob. like a career noob. I have been playing for a while and I'm only just figuring out how to strategically take down a raptor.) but Shy's suggestion might be what I need. however I can't do updates or installations due to my network being so poor, and lack of space.

Is there another type of permanent bed structure i can build for a respawn?

Except that I am not dragging the engram from the crafting page. Every once in a while the engram somehow ends up in my inventory after crafting the item.

It's something for you to double check just to be absolutely sure.

Thats definitely weird lol. I once dragged the engram into the toolbar, but i knew it wasn't right because the display is set for the blueprint rather than the actual item.
