Scorched Earth Experiment Results With Tek Generator & Trough
If you're a hardcore dino breeder like me, then the tek trough is a godsend. But seeing as I play on Scorched Earth as my main server, I had a lot of questions that a simple Google search just couldn’t answer. So I did a few experiments on single-player, as well as my home server, and thought I’d share the results seeing as the answers to these questions are difficult to find.

Note: These results are from PC patch 261.0. Will update as necessary.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

How big is the tek trough?
Basically the same size as the standard trough.

Does the tek trough have the same feeding range as a normal trough?
Yes, the tek trough has the same exact feeding range.

Can dinos still eat from the tek trough, even though it’s not powered?
Yes, dinos can still eat out of the tek trough when unpowered.

At what rate does the food spoil when the tek trough is powered?
The same as a refrigerator, so the default spoil timer x100.

At what rate does the food spoil when the tek trough is unpowered?
It spoils at the same rate as if the food were in your own inventory (i.e. very, very fast).

What is the minimum power range a tek generator can cover?
A sphere roughly 4 foundations in diameter.

How much does the minimum power cost?
1 element every 12 hours. That’s 2 elements per day and 14 for a whole week’s worth of power.

How many troughs can you fit into the minimum power range?
A lot. From just one side of the generator, {LINK REMOVED} (Personally didn’t have time to figure out a formation that utilizes all the space, but maybe one day soon.)

SCORCHED EARTH RELATED QUESTIONS

Does a tek generator deteriorate like a normal generator on Scorched Earth?
No, thankfully the tek generator does not lose health when powered like the standard generator.

Can the tek generator be knocked out by a thunderstorm?
Yes, if the thunderstorm is directly above the same zone as the tek generator, it will temporarily shut off.

Does the tek generator automatically turn back on after a thunderstorm?
Yes, if the tek generator was already on before the thunderstorm, it will turn back on after it’s over. Otherwise, it will stay powered down, even with elements in its inventory.

Does the tek generator consume an element every time it powers on?
Yes, this is one of the major downsides of having a tek generator on Scorched Earth, as it can get needlessly expensive if you get a lot of storms.

Can you store wyvern milk in the tek trough?
Unfortunately, no.

Got any other questions or think I missed something, I’d love to hear it. :)

It should be immune to Storms I think...

Thanks for posting this. I don't mess around much with Tek, but this is definitely info people will come looking for. (They'll start their own thread asking the questions without searching...but at least we have a thread to link people to or merge with now)

What boss do you have to kill to unlock the Tek Trough Feeding engram and do you have the admin summon id to summon tek trough?

Easy Manticore unlocks it. You can use

cheat SpawnDino "Blueprint'/Game/ScorchedEarth/Dinos/Manticore/Manticore_Character_BP_Easy.Manticore_Character_BP_Easy'" 500 0 0 35

or also use

cheat unlockengram "Blueprint'/Game/PrimalEarth/CoreBlueprints/Items/Structures/Misc/PrimalItemStructure_TekTrough.PrimalItemStructure_TekTrough'"

To summon the trough itself

Cheat Giveitem "Blueprint'/Game/PrimalEarth/CoreBlueprints/Items/Structures/Misc/PrimalItemStructure_TekTrough.PrimalItemStructure_TekTrough'" 1 0 0

Storms don't always shut off generators unless they're in the same zone. Can usually tell because the zone is covered in lightning while the rest of the map just has a dark overcast.

There are also a few high mountains that never have the storm (they are above it) and you could build there
