FULLY OPEN BASE
ok so after being raided and raiding ive come to the opion that really a close base doesnt work

closed as in walled..

here why...example i have a base with a 100 turrents, my base is square, that means roughly each side as 25 turrent line protection, now if my base is raided then raiders will target one side and drain the 25 turrents.. then there in and bingo base is gone.

that left 75 turrents unused.. so thats 75 wasted turrents and ammo....

so ...

i built a new base FULLY OPEN no walls everything exposed vaults machines etc, the only thing i did build was stables for dinos (stop the trolls pop shooting)

now whilst my all my goodies are in full view i have 100 turrents full protection,,will it stop me being raided (no) but will it mean my time and effort building and grinding these dam turrents and bullets is worth while (yes) surpisingly no ones even tried to date!!

little side note,, having a full open base means i have easy acces to everything, dinos in and out super easy

walls dont ever stop a raid (nothing does) but look at your bases, regardless how many turrents you have 75% of turrents on a satndard base will never be used..

So, even if the base was open, what about the other 75% of the other turrets? Couldn't they be somehow drained too?
Honestly wouldn't it be better to spread out the turrets? Lets say have a wall circling the main base. Maybe put up some towers around the perimeter of the wall, that has around 3-4 turrets on each tower. Then maybe put some on the actual base, even inside. ;p

i have a outer wall. just to stop the local dinos wandering in, but the main base is just full open, agreed balance will always be issues and lol nothing stops a raid if there determine enough this is more about i want all my turrents engaged.

leviatan, you could spread but your back to same prob, only certains areas are hit, yes they can drain the other 75% but thats more time and engergy for them, but at least all my turrents are active

sal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Jul 11, 2017 @ 4:48am
you see the problem but your sollution is lacking =)

Everything out in the open is not great, imagine me dropping wild carnos on your base ...

But you are right, building one huge metal box is a bad idea.
Instead build multiple smaller buildings covering each other.

Avoid blocking sight of turrets.

Well I was thinking spread them out so then the raiders are being hit from a wider angle.
And then the turrets range is stupidly big soooo... yeah. You'll have the whole base covered and then some, imo it just seems better to have them spread out.

good point...to counter this i did build a pillar fram and cover top with frames, so still fully open but kinda stops the drops, (kinda) still work in progress) a good mix as well of turrents and plant x push of the drops

there is no perfect build but again the point of this is full 360 degree view for all turrents and plant x

Interesting analysis :)

Few points from my personal experience:

There are two types of raiders:
a) those who are after your stuff (minority of raiders)
b) griefers, who want to make your gameplay as painful as possible by killing your dinos, destroying your buildings and throwing your stuff on the ground without taking single thing (majority of raiders)

You are clearly adressing only type a) because b) will raid you if they can do it and any base in ark can be raided if you have enough time.

Regarding a) I agree that maximizing cover of your turrets is a good strategy, however by leaving your base open you are vulnerable to different type of attacks, for instance outlets, cables and generator are quite easy to destroy with siege weapons unless they are protected by walls.

Just because you were not raided with 100 turrets while with 25 turrets you were raided always only proves that people who raided you are probably not able to think "out of the box" or are not dedicated enough.

If you play alone I would recommend investing time into multiple walls rather than turrets, or hide your stuff into pulrovia and burrow it when you go off, or make vault on the bottom of the sea etc.

Imprinted and full health bronto or rex can soak a insane amount of ammo.
Attackers will always be on advantage.

agree on your analysis of type A,

type b will or a mega tribe will get through no matter what the defencesare and how many walls i have, cable wise they are hidden in the pillars at each end and the only thing enclosed is the gen,

i have had bases with the mulit walls and ceillings and same as normal when hit one side is taken down, yet again i agree by peeps not thinking outside the box and possible type a aagin, but with theopen base it just feels (honestly) safer option, it may sounds daft because it goes agaisnt every logic of mans ideal home, but with full coverage im glad i tried, ahahah give it time i know peeps will raid possible type b

will say this thou to anyone all bases are easy to raid. with the right equipment, but my point is all my turrentsare active

stephania..i can walk up to any base with titan and drain turrents, the difference is i drain a small aount of turrents, not all

True and with introduction of Daeodon, they become almost immortal, you literally need hundreds of turrets and even then they can just bring more dinos to drain.

Huge outer shell, with turrets and plants, then honeycomb the interior with doors that lead nowhere or dead ends/interior pit falls onto metal spikes.

Interior turrets as well to make them have to body soak the bullets.

Make them really have to expend resources to get inside your base, and pay ofr it every step of the way.

And them of course have everything hidden away underwater in a nearby lake in a vault :)
