I've found them more toward the center of the map around the two peaks South of the two lakes with Beaver Dams

Super easy to find. Look around the mountains on either side of the Rock Canyon. Look in the valleys between those mountain peaks. usually three in a group.

Find the Castle by the blue obelisk, fly around that area over by the beaver dams. Follow the river cascading towards the canyon. They are over there.

i still find it odd that the griffin takes the same kibble as the Tapejara (ik this has happened too with other kibbles but i digress) but would u consider taming a griffin to be easier or harder then the tapejara?

Probably harder.

harder, they cannot be bola'd, and take much much more tranq arrows/darts.

I feel like its pretty easy. They are aggrssive and they usually don't run away from you so you don't have to chase them much. We use an arge to kite them into a trap. They don't do much damage so even with a primitive saddle your arge will be fine. Hop off the bird, close the trap door and use your crossbow tranqs to knock them out. does take quite a few arrows and we use 250+ crossbows. After they are down they don't take much narcotics.

edit: once you locate a spawn point just keep killing the low level ones and it won't be long till a decent level one will spawn. Helps if you have a teammate to help cut out the low level ones as they like to spawn in pairs much of the time.

I'm not qualified to say which is easier/harder, but I will say that Griffins take more preparation effort if you want a smooth taming process.

I recommend bringing the materials for a taming pen (dino gate, 9 foundations, 18 or so doorframes and 9 ceilings) Set it up in a fairly open area and unlock the gate so others can use it too if you don't want to destroy it.

Aggro the Griffin and try to lead it into the pen. It might take a few tries getting it into the pen, but once you get used to it, it's a lot easier. Bring a LOT of tranq arrows or darts, you won't need a ton of narcotics though.

If you're not up to farming the kibble mats (or if you don't already have them laying around), grab a carnivore and head over to the plains areas, kill a few sheep and cook up some lambchops. Cooked lambchops make relatively quick work out of a Griffin tame...not as fast as kibble, but faster that building a farm for one tame.

Before the mutton nerf we only used raw and cooked mutton to tame all but the 140+ We built a small outpost next to our trap and kept a sheep inside with a fridge and industrial cooker. Now though we only use kibble but we have probably 18 allo's at our base producing eggs.

Of course now after the 261 update, Tapajara's are really easy to tame, since you can use Rare Flowers to cause them to aggro on you making them easy to bring down.
