Ankylo attacks under water are now useless.
So I found out that the Ankylo is now completely useless underwater. It only has a secondary bite attack, which doesn't even aim correctly, instead of the tail sweep attack which would at least work somewhat decently.

Also mining anything under water is now pointless, since you might, if you're very lucky, actually hit the rock with your secondary attack if you align just right and get lucky with how your Anky is turned in the water.

Seriously, why?

Because it's supposed to be the Dunkeosteus' job to farm rocks, oil and other such things underwater? It's primary attack harvests oil and rocks. It's supposed to be the go-to tame for that purpose.

^ this..
I bet it wasn´t intended being used underwater

It's most likely going to be fixed in 261:

- Allowed Ankylo to attack with it's tail while in a floating state

^I think this also means while being carried by a quetz

Personally I do agree with Slycalkat; its not a true bug if you cannot harvest underwater with a land dino. I mean they have added dinos to do those specific things to the water. Dunks are quite cool honestly and they should get more love truely!

Dunkles are some of the coolest creatures in the entire game. Get you one.
Splutty Jul 6, 2017 @ 9:03am
So the fact they added new dinos to do something specific, means that the old dinos that could always do that before can now be thrown in the trash. Great reasoning.. :steamfacepalm:

(And there are no dunkles where I am, nor can I ever get one there)

I whish they would add metal harvesting to the Dunkeosteus, would be awesome on Ragnarok with all the underwater nodes

We'll see when 261 rolls out if the anky will be able to harvest under water again or not. If it will, then I would argue as these changes will also be added:

- Above-ground oil rocks harvest-health reduced by 50%, and underwater oil nodes harvest-health increased by 33%

^I think this means that you'll get more oil from underwater oil nodes

Then the dunk will be superior as underwater oil harvester compared to the anky as they nerfed the oxygen/speed a couple of patches ago.

Who even needs oil nowadays? My 2 dung beetles produce more than enough for 2 bases.

Ah, well, if your beetles get eaten and you suffer from sudden beetle extinction on your map? :D

On a serious note, if you have an oil pump on SE (and Ragnarok I think), you'd be swimming in it anyway, so I guess these changes are for people who still prefer farming the oil?

really if ur looking for a Dunkelosteus they are found pretty much everywhere in the ocean but u have to go deep into the sea in order to find them cause thats where they spawn, and while they may have a poor turn radius and low speed they are ment to be the Anky's of the sea cause they harvest loads of oil and have a large amount of weight to them

No, it means you're not going to be scuba diving with a dino that doesn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swim. If anything, it makes complete sense to have to get a higher tier dino to do higher tier mining

I see, that truly is a problem. On Ragnarok Dung Beetles are way more common (they run freely on the burned land part between mantis etc) then on the island where they are just in caves so maybe i´m a little bit spoiled :)

Oh right, I forgot I'm on Steam.

Thank you for this very useful response!
