Tame beavers to farm cementing paste?
Search didnt yield much info about using beavers to cement paste farm.

The description on beavers says you can move them to other areas and they will create dams.

Can you just grab beavers and drop them in a river to create dams near your base.
Does it work to tame beavers and let them roam in a river by your base?

I see some old discussion that indicates dams may only spawn in specific areas that beavers also spawn in.

Has anyone tried using beavers for this recently?

Wild dino's will de-spawn if they are to far from there original spawn area ... in the past you could build structures to house the wild beavers and collect from the dams.... this has been nurfed to an extent and the housed beavers just de-spawn ..... so the only way now is to loot the wild dams where they form ...remembering to empty them completely so others will spawn.

If you want to tame critters for paste, I'd say your options are either snails for passive paste gain, or frogs for active gain. I recently started clearing the swamp cave (Island) with my frog and it brings me 2k+ paste a run. Can't say how much snails get you, but can always tame more of those.

Tame beavers do not make dams. Transported beavers will not make dams. Dams only appear in areas where beavers spawn. They "technically" do not make them, dams just spawn in the same area where beavers spawn. I just go clean out a beaver pond every few in game days and have never been in need of cementing paste. Make sure you empty the dams completely so they are destroyed. New ones will not spawn if the old ones are still standing.
I have about 15 snails, 1500 CP every hour I think

I have found dams where no beavers were. Either they made the dams and then died, or the dams spawned in themselves.

It is possible the beavers died. Roaming carnivores often engage the beavers. If there are any large ones in the area of those dams, that is likely what happened.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Cant tame snails without sap. Can't get sap without a bunch of cementing paste for tree platforms and taps.

you can make a trap for beavers that will also keep them from despawning. use door frames and fence foundation, the Ai doesn't recognize them as a wall so they keep acting as normal.
(same thing works with the snakes too, but they will still despawn if unrendered for too long)

however, there is no noticeable difference in doing this and just leaving them free to roam. trapping the beavers is a waste of time.

You can get sap from a tap with a grapling hook. I've tried shooting the hook above and between to taps but could not access them. So for me the cost of 20 sap is 1 grappling hook.

You can still get CP from the frogs, but you get so much more from a beaver dam in just a few minutes compared to hunting bugs on frog-back for a few hours.

If they had made it so frogs could get CP from any Chitin dropping creature (like Scorps and Ants) then it might be worth it, but you can only get CP from the dragonflies and that makes it kind of lame.

Well, a frog obviously can't eat a scorpion so that makes sense, it's too big and won't fit in the mouth, nor does a frog have teeth to chew it into smaller parts! :P

You can still farm Meganeura and Titanomyrna. Not much but in specific places there are plenty of those to farm with a frog. Once you know where to look it is comparable to searching for and looting dams. Might even net more paste than a dam, although with a bit more time spent.

Wiki mentions that you can get the paste out of a jug bug corpse too... dunno whether it is true, I never actually tried.

Tame a high level Megatherium and a reasonably leveled Doedicurus, you'll get all the paste you ever need. I'm on Rag, and just tamed a 145 Megatherium, and at lvl ~220 with over 500% in melee damage, he's an utter beast. Trotted on into the volcanic wasteland and hunted Mantids for 15 minutes or so and came back with 40,000 chitin! My server is slightly boosted, but very moderately so. I'm sure on a vanilla server you could get similar numbers.

You need honey too for the veg cakes now I think ? I know they changed something that made it difficult to make the veg cakes. My snails starved to death... and It wasnt a sap issue... I had 16 taps. Pretty sure it was scarcity of honey.
