Rocket Launcher & the Rock Elemental
I am trying to knock out a rock elemental but everytime I knock it out with my rocket launcher it gets damaged every time. I believe it is the AoE from the rocket launcher. Is there a way to avoid this?

On a Rock Elemental
Head shots = high torpor, low damage
Body shots = low torpor, high damage.

Try only to hit its head or you will kill it before knocking it out

You won't regret going the cannon way to tame one. The initial cost is kind of high but not much more than the rocket route. The ko of the rock ele is much easier with cannon balls though. In my experience anyway.

I did aim for the head but it shows 2 hits.

There is no way to see what you are aiming at, how can you use it solo?

it's a piece of cake. Build the cannon up on a cliff, lure the ele underneath the cannon, aim down and shoot. You just have to get the timing right so you don't fire as it's picking up a rock to throw. I managed to do it first go and every other after it but you should expect to miss a few for sure.

also i should note, the cannon cant aim straight down so you may have to place some pillars or something to get the ele stuck on. You can eye ball it pretty easily. If you can get someone with a rock ele to help you it's even easier. Just line it up as best you can on their ele then give it a shot. You might miss the first one but it will be aimed perfectly for as many ele's as you want to tame after that.

If you have got the rock elemental trapped, then a canon is great cause 1 cannon = 5 rockets

But if not....

I find it best to build pillars at the bottom of a cliff, get the rock elemental trapped in the pillars and walk a Paracer with a canon on its back up to it and after a few shots, you know where to fire to get a head shot.. That way you got the canon for the next time

Trap it using the environment, mainly rocks and have a high hp paracer. Have already tamed 5 golems between lv 135-150 like this.

Yea this to. Make sure your paracer has reasonable health cause it may take a bit of damage from the rock throws but it's a great option and portable to :D

What about me? Will I need high health? Won't the rocks hit me? lol

Nope, golem will mainly target the paracer as its backside is closer to the golem than you

To be honest, I know my saying this won't stop you, but you'll likely never get a good use out of the Rock Elemental. They get nerfed on tame so they're useless for fending off other Golems. The Only thing I would use them for is a throw-away bullet soak in PvP, and I say throw-away because you can't force-feed them to regain their health, so it'll take all day to regain its health.

I used the cannon and it still damages the elemental. What am I doing wrong? :steamsad:

(damages taming effectiveness)

I want to tame one because I have never had one. I don't play PvP so...

Yeah. Someone gave me a similar warning, but I mean, It's Ark, you gotta tame them all. I made the mistake thinking I would get some practical use out of it, though, and was dissappointed.

Ok, I rocket blasted this elemental until I knew it only had a few more hits left and got it with the cannon. I lost taming effectiveness again.

What in the hell am I doing wrong? Is this normal? Yes, I am using kibble and yes it is Mantis Egg kibble.

Are you aiming only for the head? otherwise you are just damaging the rock ele.

They are fantastic for gathering. Or they were before you could bring island dinos over. Not sure now. You used to be able to stand one on a paracer with ramp on the front and farm stone wood thatch and clay infinitely. Idk if that still works with the current mechanics though.
