I second this. Dododex is a good one, and you can change the settings to match your server rates for taming and hatching.
always take a bit more than you need though, mistakes and accidents happen.
But yeah, look up a taming calculator so you know exactly what you need before hand. They wake up every 5 to 7 minutes at level 5 to 7, so if you're playing on official rates you'll need several hundred narcotics for high level ones.
Also if you use narcoberries instead of narcotics, you can effectively keep the animal knocked out a little longer, as it takes twice as long for the animal to "buffer up" the torpor with narcoberries. Very useful for certain tames that have high torpor drop, like Galli.
For example my level 15 Therizinosaur dropped it's torpor from full to zero in about 7 minutes. If I fed it about ~150 berries at a time, they would take about 6 minutes to raise its torpor to full. So in essence i had 13 minutes before it would wake up, after refilling the berries. While Narcotics would only take 3 minutes to reach full torpor so it would sleep for about 10 minutes before waking up.
