Server files 70+ GB, Is this right?
So i made an unofficial dedicated server for me and some friends recently, and when i looked as it was downloading and after it was all setup, i noticed that this server was taking up 71.5GB. Now this is not exactly an issue for me as i do have a 2tb HDD. My question is though, is this the correct size? I noticed alot of people talking about ~40GB sizes, and i justed to make sure that i didn't download something extra i shouldn't have. Also, If i for somereason want to move it to another partition of my hard drive, would that be a pain?

Sounds odd, my server folder is around 5.6GB.

yeah that sounds about right esp if you have a lot of mods in that folder.Which you obviously do as thats the only reason that folder will be that big.
Mine is currently at : 64.4 gig

As for moving it,that is fine.Just make sure you change your command file that you boot up with ,so its knows the new location of the server.Do same if you are using ASM.

As far as i know, i dont have any mods on or aynthing. we just play straight vanilla. though i thought maybe it was the maps. I followed a youtube video as to how to setup the server and it had me use steam cmd, then port foward, and make a bat file.

the game needs 65 gb and than the server dude needs addidtional 5 to 10 gb. [/quote]

So, just to make sure i fully understand, I have my game files, then the server has the game files, then i have the server files right? so its the game x2 and then the server files? It would makes sense, but if thats the case, should i have just put the server files where my regular game files are?

Yeah, i put it in my steam partition, but in a seperate base file. So like i have a steam drive, with steam folder in it, and in the dirve next to the steam folder i have an ARKhost folder i made

Serverfiles are around 7.5GB without Mods, if your Serverfile Dir has 70+GB you installed the game again.

So I dont have to have the game files in the same area as the server files. I just have to make sure that the files read the correct path to my original game install right?

How did you download the server files in the first place? There are 2 different steamids. One for the game where you will get 60+ gb of files and the server files too (so people that play the game on their computer can host a server too without downloading any more files)
And there is the server files alone without any other files (about 5-7gb) where you can only host a server with. You obviously downloaded the wrong one

Your using the wrong appID. Your using 346110 instead of 376030.

I would keep the files for the Server separate from your Game Files.

Let me assume that you host the Server on the same Machine you're playing on, right?
So i can assume that's a Windows Pc, if yes again do yourself a favor and remove all the Serverfiles you installed till now, go over there: http://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/3/downloads

Download the Ark Server Manager and use that Tool to Download and Setup the Server in a way you like it. It comes with a comfortable UI, with build in Mouseover Tips and the only thing that you need to do by yourself is to configure your Router to forward 2 UDP Ports to your Machine (3 if you use Raw Sockets, not advised though) everything else is just klick what you need/want.
