Hiding Irrigation Pipes?
New player.
OMG but the irrigation pipes are ugly as hell. All that time building my nice, neat little stone base and now it looks like a pipe laying contractor went crazy.
Someone has posted a picture (back in 2015) of how his friend hides them but I can't figure out what they did. And that's all I could find.
Does anyone have a solution to this? It's creating havoc with my OCD :(

Lots of people use the S+ mod which allows cables and pipes to be hidden and walls to clip

Are you on a official server? Many servers have S+ versions of pipes and wires which can be hidden by holding E on them and in general can be run underground/inside walls etc, etc, offical no mods though, I'm afraid I dont know. Sorry!

I haven't tried any mods yet. Still learning the game on the Island map to get a feel for it. But thanks.

I'm just getting a feel for the game in Single player at the moment - so I assume I'm the equivalent of an official server.

Guys I'm going to check out Structure Plus. Looks the answer to a maiden's prayer. Hope it's not too hard to mod this game - I am easily confused :P

Many thanks for the responses :)

It's super easy. Subscribe to the mod in the workshop, then activate it in your single player settings screen you get when entering single player, boom, done.

I remember the old Sim City games where you could go into Pipes mode or Subway Mode. Would be nice if they had that in this game so in normal play you would not see any of it but you could go into a "build mode" that showed all pipes and cables. Oh yeah, add electrical cable to that list. Once you start laying out an electrical grid, that just makes all the pipes even more ugly.

Tip place the pipes in your base first then run them to the water source. You can place the pipes on the floor and they dont show as much or in the cieling.

if you hid them it would remove them from any pvp type tactics (or griefing if you wanna look at it that way)

You had a great question, and there are a few things I'd like to cover that may help you out. 1) Structures Plus building mod is amazing. I really feel that should be a part of vanilla. It's clean, stackable, and the majority of it makes sense. I personally feel you should be able to turn off the ability to resource pull, but that's a minor complaint. 2) Consider you may be looking at it the wrong way. All you really use water for are crop plots, beer barrels, and cooking. There's nothing wrong with having a small shack set up to satisy your needs, away from your main base. Just be mindful if you choose to do this, because people could watch your pattern and try to figure out when they can knock you out and steal from you (moot point in pve). 3) If you MUST build piping where you are, there's a way to hide pipes by lowering foundations, or placing pipes directly on the ground first and building foundatinons over them later. I prefer to lower a single foundation when I'm planning out my base. I personally use a straight pipe to line everything up, and place it so that it cuts a foundation equally in half without any of the pipe hanging over either edge. If you're able to line it up just right, your vertical pipes will be hidden in the wall you build on the edge. When you place the initial pipe, it's more important to get it perfectly straight the further you need to place pipes out horizontally. Place your pipes first, when you're happy, attach the rest of everything else (taps, intakes, berr barrel, etc). 4) If you're really far away from a water source, there are a few options. I personally prefer to use water reservoirs. On official, it's about 1 stone water reservoir per medium and small crop plot to make sure they never die (in the case of bad rng when rain doesn't come for a while, it's better to be safe). One metal reservoir per 2 medium and 2 small will keep them at a comfortable water level. Create an additional reservoir to drink from (if players repeatedly drink from the tap, it'll lessen the safety of the crop's water level). To keep the reservoirs safe, you can place hatchframes over the tops of them. When placing the reservoirs, place the pipes first. Once you're satisfied, place the reservoirs on top of the pipes. In serial or parallel, it doesn't matter. You can chain as many as you like for backups. Finally, I just wanted to end this huge post by saying you really don't need crops very often. If you're able to create and sustain a safe greenhouse, it's even more efficient. While it's a lot more efficient to constantly build them up, fertilize them, grow them, and use them, I found having a fridge dedicated to them takes a lot of strain off of me. I can let the crops die when I don't need them. If I'm getting low on veggies, I'll start them back up. I caveat this by saying I try to use all of my resources all the time and try to constantly use any crops I have by crafting kibble, sweet veggie cakes for my snails, and bug repellent when I know I'll need it. Hope that helps.

I've never ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with pipes to test this, but if the reasoning is solely aesthetic, I would build a pair of fences, 1 on each side of the piping, and most of it should look like a single solid wall/fence.

Of course, you would have to position the piping from the getgo to be in a natural-looking location for a fence.

Thanks so much to everyone for your suggestions; I am going to amalgamate a few together and think it will work for me. I suspect Structures Plus may be too steep a learning curve for me right now - I'm still sooooooo new :P

ViveLeGras - thank you for your detailed response:
1. What is Resource Pull?
2. I doubt I'll ever play on a PvP server - not my cup of tea at all.
3. I'm a new player, just building a basic base to get me started - all you have written here sounds very complicated to me right now.
4. I am close to a water source. I am nowhere close to getting a fridge, greenhouse or making kibble. Like I said above, I'm a new player just starting out. I have a LOT to learn yet.

You will have the same issue when you get to electricity. This is why I like to build my base on pillars and then I run all my cables and pipes under the floor.
