I managed to grab 2 eggs. I'm going to get as many Fire Wyvern eggs as I can, and imprint the lot of them... going to bring the 10 highest levels with me and fight the Manticore. Imprinting = boosted stats and the one you're riding get damage bonus and damage resistance bonus, and they'll all have TONS of health, and they'll confuse the hell out of the Manticore. 10 of them can take him down. I know it is possible. I saw 2 fight it with 3 guys on the ground. 1 with homing rockets, and 2 on HIGH level Rexes kicking the crap out of deathworms.
Lightning wyvern : Med-long range, torpor + health damage (20 damage per tic at base) for the duration of breath. Straight forward but AI have insane aim skills so they'll land most of it; aka tons of damage. But it's not a huge amount of damage against Rex, but their torpor might hit faster than the critical health.
Poison wyvern : Long range mediocre AOE burst damage. The direct hit from their breath will do total of 180 damage at level 1 and increases very rapidly with their level(melee to be exact). Also 10 damage per tic while inside poison cloud for short duration after impact but this doesn't scale and offer very minor threat against large health pull Rex. Easy to dodge at long range, however, and it doesn't have the DPS output like Lightning and Fire wyvern breath. Only danger is the damage against player if you're on the mount.
200 move speed needed to outrun normals, sit 230 for alpha.
remember that they have crap turning, so they are easy to shake off.
Are you playing SP or MP? If MP, you can always try and trade eggs. When I was playing SE, I kept looting nests until I got 5 eggs that were 180+ but I kept everything above 130 and gave them away to the server. For your first wyven, any above 100 will do so easiest way is to trade an egg.
I think your idea is not feasible. A fully spawned trench will have many drakes and it will take a long time to kill them all with rex's if that is at all possible and to get a half decent egg, you will need to loot many nests unless you get lucky.
You need a fast bird, its that simple and yeah it takes time to get that speed at least on the argies I use but patience virtue etc
Depending on level an argy can take a couple hits of the lightning at a minimum and can completely avoid poison and fire.
So assuming you get to the trench and there are a billion wyvern in there which is typical outside peak hour. You need to clear it. You do this by flying through and grabbing all of the wyverns (by flying in their agro zone), then you fly up and away and they give up chasing you and head to the obelisk thereby clearing the trench.
Now the trench is cleared and you can loot as you please.
Alternatively, if you are playing MP, wait for server peak hour, everyone is hunting eggs and getting milk which means next to zero wyvern interferrng.
All the best
I brought my Tapejara along with my 2 rexes to slay 4 deathworms yesterday. My Tape now has proud 260 movementspeed on its own.
We also used Cactus Broth to make ourselfs (almost) invisible to them.
We 2 incl. our dino took one and the Tape took additionally 1 focal chili.
We found 3 eegs (2 thunder, 1 fire). We grabbed a thunder egg lvl 18 and escaped easily with no less then 1 alpha and 8 wyverns behind us.
We escaped( gladly) and greedy as we r we went back to grab the fire egg aswell.
Now im a proud owner of a lvl 80 fire egg and a 18lvl thunder surrounded by 24 fireplaces. :D :D
Spend a couple hours in the trench until you have 3 eggs that are above 175 and then hatch them or at the very least, get a couple eggs above 100 if you just need your 1st one for future egg and milk runs
The effort is the same to raise a lvl 18 or a lvl 175
The difference is you spend an extra few hours finding a higher level egg, a couple extra hours egg hunting is worth it for a 4 day tame.
