Assault rifle or pump action shotgun ?
Single player, no mod.

I have obsidian for only 1 of these. Which one is best ?

Depends on what u want 2 to. Its the same like i ask you whats better Jeep or Smart roadster. I prefer shotgun or longneck cause of costs

I want to be able to kill the big dinos such as T Rex. I am okay to use crossbow for lesser dinos. Also I already have the regular shotgun.

Probably pump action, assault rifles don't do much when they are primitive.

Since you want to kill Rexes, what's the range on a shotgun?
That's good for melee range cave diving, but would think shotgun to a rexes face = lunchtime.

And caves, yes, I want to do them.

I would say you'll have a hard time killing rexes with a shotgun or assault rifle

A Primitive Shotgun won't do for fighting Rexes. Even my Journeyman Pump-Action with 190% damage requires 5 or more shots to deal with a higher level Rex. That's a lot of biting time. Assault Rifle is not much better, it's a very specialized weapon.

My 202% Mastercraft Fab Sniper is the best gun I've ever had. It deals massive damage very quickly. I'd keep an eye out for one of those blueprints.

Fab Pistol has the cheapest ammo and decent dmg ...

Yes I will test it too.

I realize I need cementing paste more than obsidian. I found the good farm: giant turtles give lots of Keratin and are easy to find and kill.

And how about fabricated sniper rifle ? Better than assault rifle / fabricated pistol / pump up shotgun ?

Beaver dams have cemting paste in them.

Assault rifle is fun but underpowered and burns ammo. Shotgun is just right and u contole each shot.
