Time for a new 250 GB SSD...Next update will kill me
I bought my first 250 GB SSD after being with an HDD for so long. I wanted speed for once in my life.

Not so soon after I bought Ark...and i loved it.

With each update i saw my space going down. Each game i had on the SSD for performance was slowly being moved into the Storage HDD.

Ark was hungry. Hungry for bytes. I had 100 GB spare, and for a while...it was good.

Each update came, with my hype and welcoming, but Ark is hungry. Ragnarok came out,and Ark was hungrier as ever. The 100 GB became 70. 70 became 40.

Update after update,Ark was growing stronger. I thought i could handle the beast, but i was wrong.

The beast was cornering me day by day. Until i had 35 GB left. I launched the game today, and it hit me. The dreaded message.

Not enough Space.

I knew it had to be done. My Warframe folder had to be moved...or Deleted. I temporarily moved Warframe. 67 GB.

The update started,Steam of course reserved the space needed.

3.2 GB Left.

I am currently Updating. I dont know how much space i will get back after this. My wildest guess is that i will be left with 20-25 GB.

Next update...kills me.

im pretty sure theyr updates dont remove old files that are no longer used. its too much space used. doesnt seem real.

Why don't you delete your games and redownload them? Just to be sure.
ive been removing games from my partition aand its just ark and rainbow six siege there... probably will have to merge both partitions. and i dont really want to redownload ark. its huge the download.
As i said
Folders within the SeekFreeContent folder CAN be deleted to regain space of at least 36GB with no ill effects to the game

You can also do a Disk Cleanup and clear your Browser cache/history to regain space, if you even know how to do that.

You are assuming the person has their games installed to the same drive as their windows partition. I don't so doing a disk cleanup would be a waste of time.

Most people dont use a 250GB SSD as a secondary drive, so yes, i am assuming that.
And he basically said it in the OP

No they tend to use 512GB or 1TB drive as a secondary SSD. He's not clear on the details of his setup. He should be using 1 SSD for windows and 1 SSD for games. He only states "I had 100 GB spare, and for a while...it was good." Windows likes to eat free space so it's best to confine it to it's own drive and have a separate drive for games. For all we know he's using only one drive for his entire system and that's the real problem.
He basically said it in his very first sentence.

Why do you even put ark on a ssd if you know that the space is getting to little for it? Move it to a HDD and your problem is solved. No need to create a thread about a personal issue. It's not the fault of the developers that your ssd has too little space to keep ark on it..

Did you see me throwing a blame to anyone? You are the one crying over here.

I want Ark on an SSD because on HDD the loading times are unbearable. ESPECIALLY when i get Dced on a battle.

i only rreally see the use for a solid state drive is for the OS

I will try that once i get home. I have done all the rest. I used Windirstat to check what was taking space and deleted it. Steam needed 63 GB of Space to download a 4 GB update. I am only prolonging the inevitable.

2 Drives

1 250 GB SSD with OS and Ark in it
1 TB HDD for everything else.

If your SSD is a single partition with the OS (i.e. C:\ ) you could be having a problem where not only the game is taking up space but so are the windows update files.

The first thing i would is use steam to make a backup of your ark game to your HDD so if you make any damaging changes to the ARK steam foilder you can quickly

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8794-YPHV-2033

(It makes reinstalling ARK back to your SSD a snap and you won't have to download anything)

At that point I would go into your ARK folder and inside that folder there's a cache folder. Go inside the cache folder and delete everything inside that folder. Next run disk clean up wizard and delete any extra files you don't use.

You can also delete system restore points to recover disk space but I would recommend you use disk imaging and make a full backup of your OS drive before doing so.

If you want to go further and are comfortable with booting into safe mode continue reading.

If you don't know how to get into safe mode you might want to learn how to do that first. OR just buy another SSD ;D

Create a system backup of your windows install to your HDD just in case. Tools like Acronis can make a compressed system image.

To make your system image smaller you can delete ARK from your c:\ but since you would have made a backup of your local game files reinstalling the game would not require any downloading.

there's also built in windows tools for doing backups.
Windows 7/8.1

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2880652/restore-a-windows-8-or-windows-7-image-backup-to-an-unbootable-pc.html

windows 10 howto

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3011736/windows/how-to-create-an-image-backup-in-windows-10-and-restore-it-if-need-be.html

The reason it's a good idea to make a full system backup is so that you can remove system restore points that are taking up too much space.

The disk clean wizard does not good a good enough job removing any windows update install packages.

open a commandline by doing Winkey +R and type "cmd.exe"

**********Just a warning The windows 10 creator's update removed the

Deployment Image Servicing & Management Tool (dism.exe) so if your system returns

is not recognized as an internal or external command****

if you want to check out more info on dism

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-check-size-and-reclaim-disk-space-winsxs-windows-81.htm

in the black box type

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

if the following is listed as YES "Component Store Cleanup Recommended : Yes"

reboot into safemode

(for an active install of windows you must running the following command in safemode for it to work properly)

Launch cmd.exe again make sure you are running it as administrator

run at a commandline "Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase"

If you check your C:\ before and after there will be a reduction in space.

After which you can reinstall ARK back to your c drive clear the ARK cache folder again if you made the backup prior to doing that earlier.
The good thing is, if you buy another disk drive you dont need to redownload, just move the game to the new folder in the game opcions (right click game on library and search there on its options :P )

That's why I was suggesting he get a second SSD XD When you are low on disk space and you don't want to delete stuff the best option is to just get a another drive to run side by side. Most motherboards by now have at least 4 Sata ports and with how little power most good SSD drives use Why not add another drive!

I found his problem very relatable and his writing humorous and bordering on poetry. Your advice to the OP seems to be "keep it to yourself." Well, back at ya!
