Be careful, there was a crapton of carnivores around. At least 3 carno's, numerous raptors, and a few terror birds.

To make it worse, there was a couple of microraptors in the area as well to knock me off my bird.

But if you clear everything out, a modest amount of clay is yours.

As a bonus, this large bone on the beach can me pickaxed for Raw Salt.

How do I make clay out of sand and cactus sap? I put it in the mortar & pestle but there's no recipe or anything.

Make sure scorched earth engrams are unlocked (top right engram menu screen,) buy the skill (3 points I think) then craft in M&P or chem bench

Besides the desert locations in the south there are also some pointy plants in the northern area that will often times give you cacti sap. You can find the plants in the area that looks kinda like an animal graveyard with lots of skeletons and no grass or leaves on the trees. Vultures spawn in the area also. I'm not sure I have a screenshot of the area other wise I would show it.

It is right next to viking bay. Don't have a shot of the actual plant though.
