From the ARK Discord:
The Island is 40 square kilometers
The Center is 70 square kilometers
Ragnarok is 144 square kilometers

If you want that as a picture:
[XXXXXXX] <- The Center
[XXXXXXXXXXXXX] <- Ragnarok
:)

Is this accounting for that the Center has two huge underground areas? There is the underground world and then there is that huge space beneath the snowy grasslands with a snow structure. Do they only count the space above the center that is 70 square kilometers or do they account for below it aswell?

No idea but I would guess it's not accounting for verticality at all.

Is that size info accounting for the fact that only a third of Ragnarok is actually in game? it doesnt seem much bigger than the island yet.

From a question of map size, not land mass, using a 24k scan radius and a 10% overlap:
TheIsland breaks up into 588 chunks
TheCenter breaks up into 2940 chunks
Ragnarok breaks up into 980 chunks
This is based on the player world boundaries defined in the maps as of this morning.

So Ragnapillar is technically smaller than center...

yes but you have to take into account that the Center map area takes all the water into it's size also

The chunks I defined takes all the water in both maps, that is within the playable boundaries (as defined by the map). Right now, it appears that the overall map space in TheCenter is larger, but that doesn't define *usable* map space. As an example, because thecenter has that underworld, they may have a larger Z axis, but that larger Z axis is for the entire world, yet only a portion of the world is playable underground.
Yeah totally a lot of unplayable area because the cave area actually stick outside the world border of the center and here is an actual size comparison between all the map including Valhalla

No. That would be surface area and would be a much larger value than 70km2.

Knowing the surface area would be useless unless maybe you wanted to know how much paint you would need to cover every nook and cranny of the map. You don't.

I suggest a refresher course in basic geometry. How do you manage to function in this world?

I was just wondering the size of the maps and came across this but I have to comment on your post, unless you were kidding when you wrote it. First lets define surface area vs area, surface area is the area of a 3D shape while normal area is usually for 2D shapes. Now that we have that cleared up the the original measurements as well as the comment you replied to are both surface area and it is the measurement you want because the maps are 3D shapes in that you can move on an x y and z axis(Up and down, left to right, and forward and backward.). Now I want to talk about whether you have played on The Center map because if you had you would know that in the area they call The Center there is a floating island with build-able space below and on it, now if you were a smart person you would know that the guy you replied to was trying to ask if measurement was including the area below or only the area above which is a completely viable question as it would probably make a difference of at least a few square kilometers. Now that I have gone through all my points I would like to ask you the question of, how do you operate in normal everyday life with your complete lack of common sense. I imagine you probably won't reply to this as it is almost 1 year after you posted this and you don't really have a valid counter argument.

NECROED! Lmao, i just wanted to point out that the term SQUARED literally tells you whats being measured. I agree that you guys need to go back to basic geometry just to learn the difference between SQUARED and CUBED.

Really? So if you have a two story house, and you want the total sq ft, you need to go to volume and use cubed? Who needs to go back to school?
