Weird fishing bug (D key software issues on Alienware laptop)

I fished today for the first time in several months. Every time I was told to hit the letter "D," the line snapped. Is there something going on with the letter D in the fishing minigame? These were sabertooth salmons on Single Player using leech blood and a 170% pole. The timer didn't run out. Usually had about 3 seconds left. [Edit same with coel and sap and honey]

Not sure I follow, Cellmember, but I think I did this. Yesterday, I rebound the Strafe Right function to "unassigned" leaving the D key unbound. Then I fished and the bug remained, so I reassigned D to Strafe Right.

That's what I meant and still no change obviously. That's definitely a very strange bug.

Edit: Like AirCaptain already mentioned, if you haven't tried it already, try deleting your usersetting ini and see if it helps.

I'm at a loss. Not even sure what to try next. I can fish the low-tier fish with about 50% success, cuz you only have to type a few letters, and the D doesn't pop up every time. But when I try to go for the really good loot: 9/10 fail.

I had a similar problem beforehand with setting the inventory key from I to TAB and everytime I would start up the game it would revert back to default even though it was still visually the same, because the TAB is default for console and I switched that to tilde. Eventually it sorted it self out, it happened a while back, I do think it was bug related and due to the patches that's when it got sorted.

Absolulte last resort would be to try a fresh install, have you tried a search engine for your problem maybe some one else is having similar/same issue ?

This might be a stupid question, but could it be due to the level of the fish ? I'm not sure as I've never tried fishing.

ok well lets recap

although you havent added (to test a integrated keyboard you can ADD a usb) a keyboard (integrated hardware can fail too) to test hardware failure, i kinda doubt thats your problem so ...

what we know is your having a glitch that appears to be unique to you and/or your system (as already mentioned since no one else is having the glitch)

and we have no reason to believe its your system as Ark runs fine and the glitch is game play related (unless we revisit the hardware possibility - unique remember)

so its almost gotta be your save or settings files. Maybe try with a new character?
there is too much in this thread for me to reread but if you can save or get the admin to save your character, you could then try a new one without risk but otherwise maybe try a new character on a new similar server.

edit: just saw its SP so backup your save and try a new character, if it works its some glitch in your save file :(

yes and no - they are 'harder' to catch but only because they have more 'keypresses' in the same time period - its a mini game kinda thing

I've hooked probably 40 fish in the past 2 days. Random levels, 2 different parts of the map, on raft and on shore, and with every bait. The D-snap is 100% reliable, so I doubt the fish level is part of the issue. But I appreciate the thoughts!

All this is on single player. I suppose I can backup my files, start a new toon, enter god mode, cheat giveitem fishing rod, bait and chair and see what happens.

Not a problem. I'll test out fishing as well and see how it goes, see if any problems arise.

Yes definitely give it a try, that way you'll eliminate or confirm if its save related.

I think SP save files are located in \Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\LocalProfiles
