Dung beetle broken? ((Solved))
So according to the wiki if you set a dung beetle to wander and put feces in its inventory you'll have to wait 15 minutes for it to turn into fertilizer and oil, I've done this with mine but, he's stopped doing it, he's walking around, he has dung in his inventory, why won't he produce fertilizer and oil now?

((If you're having the same issue it's due to the server being restarted, to solve it all you have to do is disable wandering, take all the feces out of its inventory and put them back in, if that doesn't work also unclaim them, I've tried all these methods so you know they work))

has to be medium or large feces to work.

I've only been using that, two mediums and a large.

disable wander, unclaim. Claim enable wander then punch

It is kinda broken, some things I've noticed with dung beetles:

1. May not work when they're indoors
2. Converts poop only when there are nearby players online
3. After server restarts, you may need to take out and put back in the poop, also re enable wandering

Well I play on SP so there is no such thing as "offline" players, since when I leave the entire game is pauesed

That is a beyond terrible suggestion, and if its a joke, I'm not laughing.

Sometimes after server restarts its bugs out. What i do to fix it is disable wander, take everything out, set it to follow me, walk with it a few meters, disable follow, set to wander and put all poop back in it. And after 15 mins i get fertilizer and oil.

It is not a joke. Dung beetle not producing bug is a known issue. When servers restart, (which has been often lately if they're keeping up with the flurry of patches for the center), there is a full checklist of things to "reset" dung beetles.

picking them up, throwing them, emptying their inventory and refilling, toggle wandering, unclaim-reclaim.

The punching is mostly theraputic.

I can't really let it outside since that'd require me to kill more dilphosaurs, which is doable but annoying as heck.

Well I only punch my tames when they killed the animal I'm trying to tame.

You dont need to take it outside just make it walk a little inside.

You are playing single player so I am not sure how relevant these suggestions are but they are correct in that a server update will stop the beetle from producing fertlizer and you need to toggle wander to make it start again.

My typical day begins with turn wander off and on for all my beetles, kind of like how IT help desk tells you to turn it off and on again.

Side note: I keep my beetles in a cage, like my Achatina. Just make sure the cage is up against a wall. Have never lost 1 and its the best setup / enclosure IMO.

I've never lost one either, actually wait, I only have one, also I just keep them in my house with my other creatures because of all the poop around.

@TitaniumSpyBorgBear :steamhappy: if you place 4 Small Feces, 1 Medium, and 1 Large, you will have 6 Fertilizer and 12 oil after 15 minutes, and an additional 1 Fertilizer and 2 oil after a further 15 minutes (30 minutes total). As of patch 243.0, with the introduction of the Titanosaur, if you have a Dung Beetle with a Weight stat greater than 35.0 it can convert a single Massive Animal Feces into 16 bags of Fertilizer and 14 Oil.
Level weight exclusively, no other stat has any effect on the Fertilizer production.
Make sure they are not overburdened, as if they can not move while on wander then they will not produce. In some cases, they might refuse to wander when on ceilings and certain other structures. This can be fixed by bringing them down to ground level.

My beetles "turn off" occasionally too. what i usually do is turn off wander, fly out of render distance, sometimes just go on a metal run cause why not, and then wheni return i re-enable wander and go about playing. i check back before logging off and bingo, poop turns to bags of fert and black gold.
