The Dragon boss strategy?

I cannot find a single coherent strategy to use anywhere online or in videos. Everything I see involves utilizing some now-obsolete exploit or complete chance or using admin-spawned ascendant guns that do 1000 damage per shot.


Realistically, what is a good strategy for fighting The Dragon (Easy, at the very least) for my current situation? I am a solo tribe, but can bring in at least 1 or 2 other allied people. I have 20+ rexes, about half of which have 15k HP and 600+ melee, the other half are between 25 and 30k HP and 400-500+ melee. I have one or two rexes with 700+ melee. All have ascendant saddles with 81 armor. I only have Mastercraft quality guns for myself.

20 high level perfect imprinted rexes. Move them up into a safe area. Stay under the rexes, fire your gun at dragon once, hide under the rexes and do your best to avoid getting hit by fire balls. This should spawn pteras and dimos. Shot the dimos or they will kill you, your rexes will tear the dimos and pteras apart quickly enough. After all the pteras and dimos are dead, the dragon will land. Whistle your rexes to attack, stay at range, better at the side and rear of dragon, keep shotting him, letting the rexes do most of the work. Under normal circumstances, you'll lose some rexes, but the dragon should eventually fall.

ur main armor set etc
Rexes are good against the dragon but the only thing that's hard is his flying
Probably don't ride your rexes take cover under them from the dimorphs
Bring Daedons
maybe some dimorphs of your own too
maybe some very high level kentros if they can impale flyers

dont think that will work to well i tamed a few of them and they barely get into attack range before swinging tail so will hit stuff at sides easily but have trouble hitting stuff in front of them

that sounds like an incredibly risky, luck-based strategy, made worse by the fact that I don't know what the arena looks like (I've seen some glimpses in videos, but not a full view)

I have some pretty bad coordination, is there any way I can do it without having to jig around dodging stuff on foot?

Well, there are pillars in the area, along with lava, but I rarely found the lava to be a problem. Not sure if the pillars will stop his fire balls.

it true the fire balls will still hurt you if your riding a dino?

I believe so. Not sure though, as I've always managed to avoid the fireballs. But, because of the breath weapon the dragon uses on the ground, its not recommended to be riding anything against it.

so the only discernable strategy i can manage from this is some overly complicated mess of moving rexes someplace, hiding under them, dancing around, killing pteranodons, and I've already lost track of what i'm doing. Is there any way to simplify that or make it into a strategy that doesn't involve "jump at exactly 2.2 seconds in, then double-jump and have a 42% chance of reaching the very edge or else fail and lose everything"?

Here are some strats ive seen people use very effectivley
1:a large swarm of rexes and a "hulk giga", the rexes will do alot of damage until it fire breaths, in which case only hulk giga will live, but then it will be enraged, and its up to the giga to fight, you need a VERY carefully made giga though
2: kentrosaurs and dimorphadon swarm, this goes without saying, just spam it.
3: tapejaras, this only works if you have a medium to large sized tribe, but basically get the best rocket launchers, rifles, whatever that you can muster, grab some tapejaras and go to town on that thing, while the pilot steers clear of anything that can hurt you. Built the tape for stamina.

Hulk Giga? That better be slang for a rex with lots of health, as you can't bring gigas into arenas. Also, dimos and taps can't go into arenas either. So, you got a mod allowing those in.
