Quetzal Trap

Just wondering if the quetzal trap still works? Last time i tried it around 6 months ago, i could knock the quetz out and then it would fall to the ground straight away. Is there a way to trap/tame quetzal? cheers

I tried making this thing recently:

And the quetz would literally fly right through it every time. I tried wood, stone, metal... and no dice. I was on the Center map if that makes a difference.

I ended up taming my first quetz using the grapple from an Argie and whistling attack my target. (this was of course before the nerf)

I don't know if it still works but it seems like a pretty plausible way to solo tame a quetz. You would need to make sure to have a ton of supplies on you, including fence foundations and walls to put up around the quetz when he goes down. As well as a literal ton of narcotics. Kibble if you can swing it, otherwise once the quetz is out and you walled it off from predators you could just go get some prime meat, or if you're lucky some mutton.

its pretty easy, tame a flyer, make parachutes, get rifle with tranq drats(about15). find LOW lvl qutez, jump off flyer, use shute, shoot quetz, have flyer come to you while still falling from shute, get back on follow, repeate. should take 1-3 shots for a LOW lvl, then you use the low lvl to chatch a high lvl one, by standing on its back.

yup, with the flyers nerf this can not work with low lvl Tapajara

Cheers, i mean i play with a friend so solo taming isnt a problem. But the issue i have is chasing one for a long time and it finally drops into a group of the most aggressive dinos on the server........id just like a way of dropping one so its not complete luck if it gets eaten or not when it hits the ground. I feel sometimes it can be a complete waste of time if it drops somewhere bad or potentially over a river/sea.

Ya you really need to quickly wall it off wherever it drops. If it drops in the middle of a pack of allosaurus's or something then yep, probably a waste of time.... But that would be Ark.

Ye, im hoping the quetzal trap still works, so we can possibly knock it out mid-air, and drop it somewhere convenient.

We have a low lvl quetz but going for a high lvl next, was just seing if the trap is still viable. On our old server, we had multiple lvl 224, but that was using the trap method, around 5 months ago.

Let me know if it works for you. I don't know what I might have been doing wrong. It was as if they made Quetzals no clip right through walls.

Hmmm interesting. Im also interested in the dino that can make others aggro, and draw it to a trap on the ground somewhere.......anyone tried that?

I don't know how that works with a Quetz, they seem to fly away quickly instead of fighting back so... you'd have to try it and see.

This method does also work with low lvl Tapajeras I tested it with a lvl 30 or so a few days ago. It doesn't drain stamina when in the front seat and it's fast enough to keep up with the Quetz.

I think ill go for a Tapajeras tonight......can you bola them, then build a small hut around them, will that work?

Yes you can bola them. Also, wear a Gillie suit so you can come as close as 5m to them without being seen.

Ya this is exactly how I was able to get mine. Toughest part was finding one walking around. I literally wore a ghillie suit for real life days until I happened upon one and thankfully had everything on me, bola's and tranq darts, etc. (this is one the Center map though)

I'm pretty sure that the reason for this is that you were riding your quetz at the time?
If that's the case then a wilz quetz will just ignore the structures in its way. You've gotta be quick to dismount when you're about to trap it, which makes the structures count as solid for the purpose of boxing it in.

Do make sure to keep an eye on your quet'z stamina though, I'm not sure how that works now if it regens or how fast it drains when you've dismounted in the air. We run classic fliers on our server so I'm a bit behind on the flier nerf updates.
