Perimiter wall question.
I've been doing a lot of research on forums and wiki but still not totally clear on this.

I have a tall base but it is narrow enough that a Trex head can easily reach halfway into it and thats no beuno. I want to make some kind of perimeter around the outside so that a big dino can't actually reach inside it with its head anymore.

Just wondering what the most costs effective solution for this would be. How high should it be? Will a wall just one unit high prevent dinos getting over it or can they climb over a wall 1 unit high?

Obviously metal would help against alphas but that's too costly for me right now.

I'm thinking a stone wall thats 1 unit high would be fine as long as a big carnivore doesn't just walk over it.

Rexes can walk over 1 high walls, Spinos think can walk over 2 high, and giga and bronto is maybe 3 high. would suggest at least 4 high to start then build to 6 high to stop titans.

A 3 high wall will prevent all but the largest carnivores to get in, a 1 wall high... wall will not do. The most cost effective but yet ugly solution is Dino gates.

a 1 high wall is not gonna do anything. Pretty sure most large dinos can just walk on over if you try to put realism into a semi non realistic game

I use pillars. Go 3 to 5 high and run them around your base. Just remember your dinos won't be able to get in or out either. You'll need a dino gate or behe gate somewhere

I made a stone wall 2 units high and a stone fence on top of that. (I just liked how it looked with the fence on top.) Will that fence count as a third wall or should I make it higher?

If titan comes again I'll just kill command it maybe cheap but I'm playing solo and don't have anywhere near the firepower to take one on.

Just do a fence with small dino gateways :p

Also maybe 50 gateways take less materials than 700 walls, i don't know but maybe ..

Cool base. And yeah I've heard because they are cheaper is why many people prefer gates over walls. Since I'm so new tho, this is my first play through basically a learning experience, I wanted to try with walls first.

Btw how can Spinos climb so high? Do they use there arms for grasping like a person or something?

If you're playing singleplayer, look into Structures Plus. It has some large (4 high) and behemoth (12 high) wall sections built in. It will also save you a lot of headaches with the grind, as all the structures can be picked up.

For a nice option can use 2 standard walls, 1 window, topped with 1 doorway for a break from the plain old walls. unless you do like my and use regular foundations with walls on the inside and out with a roof to make them solid (with placements for turrets and dinos like the centepedes)

Spinos are longer than trex and walk on 4 legs, so it give them more stance to climb walls

->not sure if a 2 wall tall is enough for most predators, would say 3 wall tall

The double wall is nice for aesthetics, plus it gives you a space to run utilities. I build my dino barns like that.

If you are playing SP, use window frames instead of walls, it cost cheaper and only insects sometimes goes through.
Doorframe also works but the lowest level have to be a window frame, dilo and small pests like the thief dino and the angry night compy fits a through doorframe.
