Metal node respawn distance
I've been looking around online to find an exact answer of this but can't find it.

People say metal nodes respawn after a while if you are far enough away. But how far exactly is far enough?

i think your confusing render distance and the nodes actual re spawn timer ones its been collected. they are completely different.

metal nodes NEVER respawn when you move out to a certain distance and move back into visual range. they are on a spawn timer. if you collect all the metal in a node, it takes time for that node to respawn.

and if a metal node is on a respawn timer, it doesnt matter whether you are within or out of its render range, it'll reappear when its timer is up.

its a server parameter: ResourcesRespawnPeriodMultiplier
essentially, there is a hidden value you cant see, its the respawn timer for resources when the parameter is set to the default which is 1.0.

values > 1.0 make them take longer to respawn, values < 1.0 make them take less time to respawn.

think he means player respawn distance limit

Where things do not respawn as long as you are within X distance. hence why they say move out of range, it prevents pop in of dinos/resources

ahhh you mean this server parameter: ResourceNoReplenishRadiusPlayers

again, the actual value is hidden, and its a multiplier. default is 1.0 for X distance. values > 1 increase respawn distance, < 1 decrease respawn distance.

Wierd thing is I had resource respawn period set to about 0.8 and nothing seemed to be respawning. I moved it down to about 0.2 and all of a sudden everything spawned back. I'm surpised there was such a difference between those settings I mean I knew there was a difference but not that big of one.

Anyone know how to find out what the actual time is per setting?

i think it takes current time into consideration. so if you drop its multiplier, and thats below the current time, instant respawn.

I can't say with 100% confidence, however, I believe you could crack open the dev kit to see the native timers that are being multiplied by the server settings people mentioned.
I'm wondering if the OP was mostly interested in building as close as possible to the nodes for easy farming.

metal will respawn regardless if player is in the area or not so long as the metal is at least 9 ceilings/foundations away from a blocker structure (ceiling/foundation/fence foundation). Dinos standing on top of a respawn point can also block respawn (and can result in loss of dino as well).
